In a few short months, the world will welcome the book-to-movie adaptation of James Dashner’s The Maze Runner to the big screen. For readers all over the world who connected with this post-apocalyptic story, one of the most important parts of this adaptation was casting the characters just right. So, whom exactly are the people playing these crucial roles? Let’s get to know the cast, and in doing so become even more excited for September 19.

Dylan O’Brien as Thomas

Dylan O’Brien will play the main character of The Maze Runner, Thomas, who wakes up in the maze without memory of his life or the outside world. This name look familiar? It should. O’Brien has become the Adam Brody of the decade, stealing the world’s heart through his role as Stiles Stilinski on MTV’s Teen Wolf. If you’ve seen any of the show, you know that O’Brien puts on a consistently amazing performance. If you haven’t seen the show, you are in for a treat. Rest assured that the leading role of Thomas is in good hands.

Kaya Scodelario as Teresa

Kaya Scodelario will play the leading lady and love interest of Thomas, Teresa Agnes. Scodelario might not be a face so well known, but I think that might be the best part of her taking on this role. She’s most prominently known for her role as Effy Stonem in the British television series Skins. Not only does she fit the physical description of Teresa in the books, but she also has experience playing a mysterious, seemingly out of place character.

Ki Hong Lee as Minho

The connoisseur of last words and sarcastic comments: Minho is one of readers’ favorite Gladers. Just as the character is liked in the books, Ki Hong Lee is liked (in my experience) amongst readers. He fits the book description just as well, if not even better, as Scodelario and Teresa. However, he’s even less well known than the previously mentioned actress. I’m so excited to see such an amazing character be brought to life by someone of which I’m unfamiliar. It makes it that much more exciting, because I’m not sure what to expect.

Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Newt

We have a real budding star on our hands when it comes to the actor who is Newt: Thomas Brodie-Sangster. He’s currently on HBO’s hit TV series Game of Thrones, playing the role of Jojen Reed. In this role alone, he has more than proved his acting ability. I have no doubt that he can bring the role of Newt, the second-in-command and somewhat mentor of Thomas, to life.

Will Poulter as Gally

A story isn’t complete without a good adversary, right? Gally is the adversary of The Maze Runner, which is perhaps why the casting of Will Poulter came as a surprise to me. You’ll most recognize him from his role as Kenny Miller in We’re the Millers, which just debuted last summer. In this film he plays a soft-spoken, nerdy kind of character. Since this is probably the persona people would recognize him as, it’s a bit strange to see him as the villain. However, I have faith that he can find his inner-Gally.

I don’t think the casting directors behind The Maze Runner could have done a better job in casting this film. However, with nothing to go on but stills and short trailers, we will just have to wait and see if they properly bring this story to life in September. Are these your dream picks for your favorite characters of the Glades? Let us know!
