Every era has its heartthrobs, and the 90’s were no exception. From the popular boy bands to film and TV stars, there was plenty of eye candy to go around. Now that two decades have gone by, most of us have probably lost track of what our once-idolized childhood obsessions are up to. Here’s an update on some of the favorites.
Undoubtedly the most popular member of the boy band 98 Degrees, Nick Lachey has remained on the radar quite steadily since the group’s hiatus. From 2003 to 2005, Lachey had a reality show with then-wife, Jessica Simpson, but the two have since separated. He is now married to Vanessa Minnillo and has one child with her. Lachey is currently the host of VH1’s Big Morning Buzz Live.
Once known as the pretty boy from ‘N Sync, JC Chasez seems to have moved onto bigger and better things. After the group broke up in 2002, he went on to produce his own solo album, Schizophrenic in 2004, worked as a writer and producer for other musical artists and was even a judge on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew until 2012.
Shawn Hunter from Boy Meets World will always hold a special place in my heart. Maybe it was his signature leather jacket or long luscious locks that did it, but I’d choose Shawn over Cory any day. After the show, Strong continued to get a degree in English from Columbia University. He has also been writing and directing short films with his brother, and he married wife Alexandra Barreto in 2013.
Everybody loved Uncle Jesse from Full House, and it seems that many never stopped. John Stamos has starred in other shows since, such as NBC’s ER and USA Network’s Necessary Roughness. He also appeared on Broadway inBye Bye Birdie, and can now be spotted in Dannon’s extremely popular Oikos Greek Yogurt commercials.
With their long blonde hair, poppy tunes and laid-back styles, the three Hanson brothers quickly became a hit in the late ‘90s. Today, the three still continue to make music together, releasing their ninth album, Anthem, in 2013. They have also cleverly created an IPA beer named Mmmhops. All three are now married with children, as well.
Coming to fame in the late ‘90s, Carter stole the hearts of many a prepubescent girl with his boyish charm and upbeat vocals. Although he has continued to make music, life hasn’t necessarily been smooth sailing for the popstar. In 2013, Carter filed for bankruptcy and is now living with a relative in Florida.
Although not all have fully sustained their heartthrob statuses, it seems that these boys of the 90’s are still doing fairly well for themselves. It will be interesting to see what they will be up to given another few decades!
