Pop culture lovers know how tiresome it is to see reality stars and pop princesses rise to fame as their ridiculous antics and drama are splashed across the tabloids. The media eats it up, and who can blame them? The attention-seekers of the celebrity world certainly make for good gossip. The problem with that, though, is that truly talented, respectable stars get pushed aside in favor of talking over served clubbing night shanigans and *shudders* twerking.
So, here’s to the celebs who are awesome by just being themselves. These ladies (and a gent) deserve a round of applause for being today’s most popular stars —without the help of crazy headlines.
She’s Hermione for crying out loud. There are probably few actresses as universally known as Ms. Watson, even though she’s just 24. The world literally watched her grow up on film. And yet, under all that pressure, she has remained a role model through and through. She has found plenty of success post-Potter in films like The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and is now a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. Ten points for Gryffindor, indeed.
I know I sound like an old lady when I say stuff like this, but it’s nice to see a young musician who is talented enough to get noticed without taking off her clothes. Taylor got everyone hooked on her first pop album in seconds (usually against their will) and wowed once again with her self-penned songs and classy, sparkly outfits. That, my dear, will never go out of style.
He’s Sherlock, Smaug and Khan, among many other characters, and is already a frontrunner in this year’s award season for his performance in The Imitation Game. Good ol’ Benny doesn’t play the fame game, though – in fact, instead of announcing his recent engagement via Twitter or tabloid, he opted to quietly announce it in The Times of London newspaper. Perhaps print isn’t dead after all.
Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, that is. Not only has she climbed the ranks of stardom for her diverse roles in films like The Hunger Games and Silver Linings Playbook, but she’s also an Internet darling because of her love of food and her adorkable clumsiness. She’s definitely not manufactured, and definitely deserves some recognition for her realness.
Emmas are just really cool, I guess? Emma Stone has remained a favorite rising star for years, without ever sacrificing her integrity. And guess what? It has paid off. Not only is she Spidey’s girlfriend (on- and off-screen), she also scored her second Golden Globe nomination recently for her gritty turn in Birdman. Though she could let her famous relationship be featured on every magazine cover, she chooses to be known for her work instead of her personal life. So far, I’d say that’s going pretty well for her.
Attention-seekers are common in Hollywood. Those who deserve our attention, on the other hand, often don’t ask for it. So may sure to give credit where credit is due, even if you still need to indulge in salacious gossip now and again.
