It’s that time of year again. Thousands of the nation’s most passionate fans will gather in the heart of Atlanta, Ga. for the biggest and most exciting labor day event this country has ever seen. That’s right, I’m talking about DragonCon.
This year the wonderful people at DragonCon are promising a bigger, better and even more spectacular event than last year. While it might seem impossible to make one of the biggest fan-centered events on the east coast better than it already is, I’m here to tell you it’s not just possible but already happening.
So as you get ready to pack up your cosplay for a weekend you’ll not soon forget, here’s what you should be looking forward to at this year’s DragonCon!
20,000 Leagues Under DC and The Chosen Cosplay Competition
DragonCon has upped their annual aquarium takeover on Saturday, Sept. 5, by adding a brand new cosplay competition with a panel of serious cosplay legends – most notably, Yaya Han. Twenty of the best cosplayers will battle it out for the top prize, including a place on the judges panel for the 2016 “The Chosen” Cosplay Contest. Experience the beauty of the aquarium packed with all the quirks you know and love about DragonCon all in one night. A cash bar and the aquarium food court will be available. Tickets start at just $25 if purchased in advance ($30 at the door) and $80 for VIP. For more information and to buy your tickets, you can click here.
It wouldn’t be DragonCon without the parade, and this year it’s back and bigger than ever. Longer than last year’s route, and with a record number of people expected to line the streets of downtown Atlanta, this is one event you don’t want to miss. The parade is on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 10 a.m. and plays hosts to hundreds of cosplayers showing off their craft. For more information on the parade, you can click here.
Basically all the after hour con experiences
The real party begins at DragonCon after the sun goes down and it’s filled with fandom specific events that will make even the manliest men fangirl. Late Night Puppet Slam, Miss Star Trek Universe, all the live performances and the Rocky Horror Picture Show Live are just some of the amazing after hours offerings.
To see a full list of events for this year’s DragonCon, you can download the 2015 DragonCon app on the Apple Store and Google Play. It’s entirely free and once you download it, you can plan your entire weekend by adding events from the master schedule onto your schedule.
