Celebrity Crush: Tom Hardy

The world has gone Tom Hardy crazy, and I am no exception. Over the past few years, he has started sneaking his way into just about every popular movie. He was in two of the eight movies up for Best Picture at the Oscars, and was nominated for best actor in a supporting role, thanks to his outstanding performance in The Revenant.

Why is Tom Hardy so popular, you ask? The most obvious answer is that his acting skills are impeccable. He can play any role and completely knock it out of the park. Unstable twins (yes, two of him) taking over the London crime scene? No problem. A lying, vicious, self-centered wild man making his way through blizzards in the uncharted wilderness? Easy. A Boston bartender who turns out to be a murderer but still convinces you to have a soft spot for him in the end? He can do that, too (or maybe that was just me).

th01

There’s also no denying the charm of his British accent, and the looks certainly don’t hurt. He can pull off a clean cut look better than most guys out there, but can rock a beard even better. The tattoos are just an added bonus.

th02

Did you know that he’s also a dedicated husband and father? It doesn’t get much better than Tom in all his glory holding his mini-me… except for him holding puppies. That comes pretty close.

th03

If you somehow don’t have a major crush on Tom Hardy already, do yourself a favor and watch every movie that he’s ever been in. You’ll thank me later.

Celebrity Crush: Former ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Star Nina Dobrev

Celebrity Crush: Former ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Star Nina DobrevAbout a month ago I did a celebrity crush article on Ian Somerhalder, one of the stars of Vampire Diaries. But today I want to focus on his co-star and ex-girlfriend, Nina Dobrev. There are very few celebrities I look up to because celebrity idolization can be pretty toxic, but Nina is one of the most beautiful and genuine people I have ever seen. So let’s talk about why Nina is the best.

To start off, how absolutely stunning is she? I would legitimately kill for her eyebrows and bone structure. Also, her fashion sense is impeccable.

She’s a huge Harry Potter nerd! It’s always awesome when celebrities show us how obsessed they can be with something, too.

She’s the total opposite of a mean girl, letting you know you can sit with her.

Her and her girlfriends are absolute #friendgoals.

And above all, she’s not afraid to be silly and have fun. Fun and happiness is a huge part of her life and she does not hide that.

I woke up like this. #UNICORN Life.

If I was a celebrity, Nina Dobrev is who I would strive to be like. She’s gorgeous, funny, and sweet. She doesn’t try to maintain an air of exclusive classiness like a lot of celebrities. She shows her fans that she’s human too and sometimes has bad days. She encourages people to value your friends and mental health in order to lead a happy and fulfilling life.

Celebrity Crush: Ian Somerhalder of ‘The Vampire Diaries’

In my sophomore year of high school, I had grown tired of all my friends at the lunch table raving about some show about vampires. I finally caved and went home that day and pulled the show up online.

This began my week or so long binge-watching of the very popular CW show The Vampire Diaries. I hadn’t expected to fall in love with the show. Honestly, from listening to friends talk about it, I expected some cheesy romance show where the characters happened to be vampires. However, the drama combined with comedy and very likeable and relatable characters drew me in.

But the number one reason for my addiction?

Ian Somerhalder and his amazing acting as his character Damon Salvatore. I can rant and rave about Ian and his character Damon for days, but let’s just stick with the basics.

Let’s just start off with how handsome he is.

Not only is Damon charmingly sarcastic, he’s also portrayed by the beyond attractive Ian. It’s a little ridiculous.

He’s also very into promoting The Vampire Diaries by posting awesome pictures from the set.

Outside of the show, he is very active in saving animals from cruelty and helping anyway he can.

Overall, Ian Somerhalder was the best thing to happen to The Vampire Diaries because his good looks and charm have been bringing all the girls to the yard for seven seasons now. If you haven’t given the show a chance, take my word for it and begin your Netflix binge right now. You will not regret it.

Celebrity Crush: Kerry Washington

I’ve got a girl crush and I am in no way ashamed. If you’ve ever watched any piece of Kerry Washington’s work you’ll know why in an instant. Not only is she one of the most beautiful people on this planet, but she’s one of the most talented as well.

If you’re not familiar with Washington, you might know her as Olivia Pope on ABC’s Scandal. She plays the high-profile Washington “fixer” who just happens to fall in love with the married President. If you haven’t seen it, you should start watching now. And if you’re looking for an example of Washington’s talent, you should take a look at her monologues from the show. INCREDIBLE.

And if television isn’t your thing and you’re more into movies, she has plenty of those to go around. Check her out in Ray and Django: Unchained, where she played wife to Jamie Foxx in both, or in the early 2000s hit Save the Last Dance. Regardless of what film you choose, I promise you’ll be impressed.

I am obsessed with Kerry Washington’s sense of style, as is most of the fashion world. I can’t say that I’ve ever seen an outfit that I didn’t like on her. She is absolutely stunning and I’m pretty certain she has the ability to wear a trash bag and still look like complete perfection. All you have to do is open up any weekly tabloid or fashion magazine and she’ll be right on top of the best-dressed list every week!

If none of these aspects put you half in love with Kerry Washington as I am, maybe her personality will do the trick. When watching her do panels for Scandal or her other pieces of work, she’s loud and peppy and always has a smile on her face! I can only imagine that she’s a person that makes everyone around her want to smile, and what’s a better trait in a person than that?  Her charities include the Allstate Purple Purse Foundation which combats domestic violence, as well as the Boys & Girls club, and a Turnaround Arts, a government program to help low-performing schools through the use of the visual and performing arts.

Washington spends more of her time doing good for others than she spends on herself, and that is the true reason for my girl crush! If you can think of any reasons I didn’t list for why we love Kerry, let me know in the comments!

Celebrity Crush: Michael Cera

I first saw Superbad when I was 13. I loved it, but as I got older I kept telling myself I’d see a different, more serious movie that would knock my socks off and turn my loving Superbad into a forgotten phase of my youth… I’m 19 now, and it’s still my favorite movie. And I’ve come to realize this is mostly due to the beautiful and wonderfully talented Michael Cera.

For years, I have been unable to admit this. I’ve always told people Leonardo DiCaprio was my favorite actor. There was just something about Superbad and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist that made me regard them as less legitimate than other movies. Like the ones Leo starred in.

However, while I still like DiCaprio’s work A LOT, I’ve come a long way in my adolescent partialities.

No longer am I afraid to admit that Superbad is my watch-when-I’m-sad movie, or that Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist makes me tingle with warm happiness inside – it’s like drinking hot chocolate.

And if you’ve ever seen either of those films, you know that Michael Cera has a huge effect on the atmosphere created in them. His sense of comedic timing and ability to create such an endearing, albeit awkward, teenaged character is undoubtedly impressive. I’ve realized that he is one of the biggest reasons I love re-watching these movies and showing them to my friends.

So, truly, I think of this article as a proclamation – nay, a confession – of my love for Michael Cera. I’m finally admitting it to the world!

And with my admittance, I’ve come to look more into his work.

Lately, he’s been pursuing different kinds of roles. He’s shying away from his shy, nice-guy “type” and is stretching himself. This can be seen in the movies, Magic Magic and Crystal Fairy & the Magical Cactus, as well as in his portrayal of himself in This is the End.

He has published a hilarious recount of having an 8 month-long text-conversation with a random number to The New Yorker.

He even starred on Broadway in Kenneth Lonergan’s This is Our Youth.

So, as it turns out, he has many more sides and he wants to show them off. I, for one, am only too excited to watch him as he blossoms into an actor that is a force to reckon with.

At first, he caught my intrigue with his amazing performances in two of my favorite movies. I flirted a little with his earlier works. And now he’s wining and dining me with his recent accomplishments and confidence as he breaks away from his comfort zone. At this point in our relationship, I’m head over heels for him.

If you follow me on social media (shameless plug) then you MUST know about my massive crush on the beautiful creature that is Colton Haynes. Honestly, my heart beats just typing his name and I may seem like a crazed fan but WHO CAN DENY HIS BEAUTIFULNESS?

Haynes came on my radar after…I don’t even know, honestly. You’ll probably know him from My Chemical Romance’s music video, Roy Harper on Arrow or Jackson Whittemore on Teen Wolf. OR, you might even know him from his EPIC Halloween costumes:

Let’s just say, he slays at Halloween.

ANYWAY. Behind all that Halloween makeup lies a beautiful man. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, he can model, act and SING. Yes, SING. Even if you don’t like country music, I recommend you watching this video that just MIGHT change your mind:

He’s just as nerdy as us too. Do you remember that time he won the internet when he live-tweeted sitting next to an awkward couple having their first date?

Or, how about that time where he reminded us he’s just like us who needs his beauty rest?

Either way. It’s hard not to love a down-to-earth guy like Colton Haynes. Even his name is beautiful. Let me just hit you with some GIFs that will get you to swoon.

He even makes looking healthy while seeking revenge seem cool.

Yep. That’s true.

I generally write with my earphones in, a strong coffee by my side, alone with my thoughts that dance to the beat of my flavor-of-the-week music choice. Today is different. I am having coffee and working alongside James Franco. Ok, well kinda-sorta/not at all. The reality is, I’m armed and ready for my day with my “The Many Faces of James Franco” t-shirt he advertised on his Instagram, which I bought because he is my celebrity crush and that’s just what you do when you’re in love. Celebrity Catch Up: 90’s Heartthrobs Edition

Every era has its heartthrobs, and the 90’s were no exception. From the popular boy bands to film and TV stars, there was plenty of eye candy to go around. Now that two decades have gone by, most of us have probably lost track of what our once-idolized childhood obsessions are up to. Here’s an update on some of the favorites.

Nick Lachey

Undoubtedly the most popular member of the boy band 98 Degrees, Nick Lachey has remained on the radar quite steadily since the group’s hiatus. From 2003 to 2005, Lachey had a reality show with then-wife, Jessica Simpson, but the two have since separated. He is now married to Vanessa Minnillo and has one child with her. Lachey is currently the host of VH1’s Big Morning Buzz Live.

JC Chasez

Once known as the pretty boy from ‘N Sync, JC Chasez seems to have moved onto bigger and better things. After the group broke up in 2002, he went on to produce his own solo album, Schizophrenic in 2004, worked as a writer and producer for other musical artists and was even a judge on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew until 2012.

Rider Strong

Shawn Hunter from Boy Meets World will always hold a special place in my heart. Maybe it was his signature leather jacket or long luscious locks that did it, but I’d choose Shawn over Cory any day. After the show, Strong continued to get a degree in English from Columbia University. He has also been writing and directing short films with his brother, and he married wife Alexandra Barreto in 2013.

Rider-Strong_02 Rider-Strong_01

John Stamos

Everybody loved Uncle Jesse from Full House, and it seems that many never stopped. John Stamos has starred in other shows since, such as NBC’s ER and USA Network’s Necessary Roughness. He also appeared on Broadway inBye Bye Birdie, and can now be spotted in Dannon’s extremely popular Oikos Greek Yogurt commercials.

John-Stamos_01 John-Stamos_02

Hanson

With their long blonde hair, poppy tunes and laid-back styles, the three Hanson brothers quickly became a hit in the late ‘90s. Today, the three still continue to make music together, releasing their ninth album, Anthem, in 2013. They have also cleverly created an IPA beer named Mmmhops. All three are now married with children, as well.

Hanson_02 Hanson_00

Aaron Carter

Coming to fame in the late ‘90s, Carter stole the hearts of many a prepubescent girl with his boyish charm and upbeat vocals. Although he has continued to make music, life hasn’t necessarily been smooth sailing for the popstar. In 2013, Carter filed for bankruptcy and is now living with a relative in Florida.

Aaron-Carter_02 Aaron-Carter_01

Although not all have fully sustained their heartthrob statuses, it seems that these boys of the 90’s are still doing fairly well for themselves. It will be interesting to see what they will be up to given another few decades!

Do you ever find yourself watching interviews with a celebrity and saying to yourself, “Man, if we met in real life, we’d definitely be best friends?” That’s pretty much exactly what I say about Troian Bellisario. Most know her as the beautiful and intelligent Spencer from Pretty Little Liars, but Troian has become my celebrity girl crush for so many other reasons than just her amazing acting skills. Why is Anna Kendrick my celebrity girl crush? She’s hilarious, talented and a big name star…That’s why! You know her from Pitch Perfect and Up In The Air. She plays the smart, sarcastic, funny girl in many of her films and she’s very charismatic and down-to-earth during interviews and behind-the-scenes footage from her movies. What sets Anna apart from other actresses is that she has an amazing singing voice, and she has sung in several of her films. She’s even a rapper in Pitch Perfect! I was excited to learn that Anna is the lead in two musical films coming out this year – The Last 5 Years and Into The Woods! I’m clearly a fan of Anna’s work, but in case you need more persuading here are 3 reasons why YOU should join the Anna Kendrick Fan Club… Continue reading

That smolder. Those lips. That accent! Tom Hardy is one crush-worthy Brit! With a plethora of tattoos, a lack of fashion sense, and that “un-classy” kind of macho-ism that is attractive to women and men alike. It was this attractiveness that won him a modeling competition at age 21 and a brief contract with the agency Models One. But don’t let him fool you; Hardy is much more than just a pretty face. He is trained in theater, studying at Richmond Drama School and training under Sir Anthony Hopkins’s former mentor at the London Drama Centre. He was even awarded the 2003 London Evening Standard Theatre Award for Outstanding Newcomer and was nominated for a 2004 Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Most Promising Newcomer of 2003 in a Society of London Theatre Affiliate. Celebrity (Girl) Crush: Emma Stone

Emma Stone on NBC's TODAY (Image Peter Kramer / NBC)

Emma Stone on NBC’s TODAY (Image Peter Kramer / NBC)

There are some celebrities you admire for their talent. There are some celebrities that you love for their looks. And then there are some celebrities that you just really want to befriend. Emma Stone falls into the third category.

My friends and I have varying opinions on the world of pop culture, but Emma Stone is someone we can all agree that we love. In fact, everyone seems to love Emma Stone. Guys love that she’s quirky-cute (and Spidey’s girlfriend.) Girls love that she’s down to earth.  Parents love the “be yourself” message she sends to fans. Tumblr loves her very GIF-able expressions (and the “People Tumblr Love” list is mostly limited to British guys, so that’s pretty cool, right?) Emma Stone is, put simply, all kinds of awesome. Being so awesome makes one worthy of being a girl crush. For those wondering, a girl crush is, “when a girl admires another girl. It means you want to be the person you have a girl crush on, or simply you just want to be their best friend. You pretty much just think they’re awesome.” Thank you, Urban Dictionary.

What makes Emma Stone particularly awesome, you ask? First of all, she has quite a gift for Ellen’s Dance Dare, a challenge most are too embarrassed to try, and those who do try often fail pretty hard. I don’t know about you, but I think having a friend who could secretly dance behind your back in a ridiculous fashion would be pretty rad.

Another thing that makes Emma Stone awesome is that she is among the few actresses that represent the pale girl population. As a fellow pale girl who always sees spray-tanned stars on the silver screen, I appreciate Emma’s natural look. Of course, it is rather absurd that she manages to look equally as good with both blonde and red hair considering her fair skin tone, but this is about why she’s awesome, not why she’s enviable!

Emma Stone seems to exclusively play, well, awesome characters. Awesome, intelligent characters, that is. The kind that make good role models regardless of a viewer’s age. She plays a superhero’s girlfriend in The Amazing Spiderman, but she’s top-of-her-class instead of a damsel in distress. She was a leading lady in the romantic comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love., but was a sassy and hard-to-get law student instead of a silly single-girl stereotype. And finally, in one of her first starring roles, she opted for a strong character over a glamorous one by playing Skeeter Phelan, the brave and witty budding journalist of The Help. Her tendency to divert from the norm in the characters she plays is a breath of fresh air.

Put simply, Emma Stone is one cool chick. She does things like show paparazzi information for charities she supports rather than flipping them off. She’s consistently a hilarious talk show guest, but has as also been known to make heartfelt acceptance speeches a time or two. She’s relatable, but still has the star quality that will continue to make her career a stellar and diverse one. She is the most girl-crush worthy starlet I know (or rather, I would like to know!).
