Celebrity Crush: Kerry Washington

I’ve got a girl crush and I am in no way ashamed. If you’ve ever watched any piece of Kerry Washington’s work you’ll know why in an instant. Not only is she one of the most beautiful people on this planet, but she’s one of the most talented as well.

If you’re not familiar with Washington, you might know her as Olivia Pope on ABC’s Scandal. She plays the high-profile Washington “fixer” who just happens to fall in love with the married President. If you haven’t seen it, you should start watching now. And if you’re looking for an example of Washington’s talent, you should take a look at her monologues from the show. INCREDIBLE.

And if television isn’t your thing and you’re more into movies, she has plenty of those to go around. Check her out in Ray and Django: Unchained, where she played wife to Jamie Foxx in both, or in the early 2000s hit Save the Last Dance. Regardless of what film you choose, I promise you’ll be impressed.

I am obsessed with Kerry Washington’s sense of style, as is most of the fashion world. I can’t say that I’ve ever seen an outfit that I didn’t like on her. She is absolutely stunning and I’m pretty certain she has the ability to wear a trash bag and still look like complete perfection. All you have to do is open up any weekly tabloid or fashion magazine and she’ll be right on top of the best-dressed list every week!

If none of these aspects put you half in love with Kerry Washington as I am, maybe her personality will do the trick. When watching her do panels for Scandal or her other pieces of work, she’s loud and peppy and always has a smile on her face! I can only imagine that she’s a person that makes everyone around her want to smile, and what’s a better trait in a person than that?  Her charities include the Allstate Purple Purse Foundation which combats domestic violence, as well as the Boys & Girls club, and a Turnaround Arts, a government program to help low-performing schools through the use of the visual and performing arts.

Washington spends more of her time doing good for others than she spends on herself, and that is the true reason for my girl crush! If you can think of any reasons I didn’t list for why we love Kerry, let me know in the comments!

Why I Love Shonda Rhimes

Life ruiner. Killer of all my favorite characters. Terrible, terrible person, but still such a genius. The names I’ve used over the last couple of years for the brilliant, fearless, and tremendously talented, Shonda Rhimes. It was May of 2009 when I was first introduced to Ms. Rhimes’ powers. The finale of season five was the first episode I ever watched of Grey’s Anatomy. I felt such strong feelings for these characters I had just met, and was so in awe of the woman who created them. It’s rare that you watch a show and feel so connected to each story and everything that is going on in each and every person’s life. I felt this with Shonda’s show. From that episode on, I’ve been not only a super fan of Grey’s, but also a super fan of everything Shonda touches. Continue reading

5 Reasons to be obsessed with ‘Scandal’!

SCANDAL (Image Credit: ABC)

SCANDAL (Image Credit: ABC)

Coming up with a list of only five reasons why I’m obsessed with Scandal was hard for me because, as anyone who knows me will tell you, I’m just a little bit (a lot) obsessed with the show. I’ll be the first to tell you that my obsession with the show isn’t normal, but normal is overrated, right? Although I couldn’t list every reason, this list sums up why I’ve remained a faithful Gladiator! Continue reading

The Top 5 Shonda Rhimes Characters

SCANDAL (Image Credit: ABC)

SCANDAL (Image Credit: ABC)

When I took on the task of writing this article I really had no idea how I was going to do it. Anyone who’s a Shonda Rhimes fan and watches her shows as religiously as I do would understand how difficult it is to pick just five characters. I still think that there are characters who should be on this list but I had to narrow it down to only five, so here it is, my ranking of Rhimes’ characters. Truthfully, if you were to ask me tomorrow if they’re still my top five, it might be different. Continue reading

Fashion with Character: Olivia Pope of ‘Scandal’

When the Sex and the City series finale aired on February 22, 2004 I knew I was in trouble. Not only was I losing my beloved NYC girlfriends, I was also going to miss out on the latest fashion. For eight long years I searched for a show that could inspire fashion envy and I didn’t find it until now. The hottest show on network television, Scandal, not only features steamy scenes between D.C.’s top fixer and the President of the United States but an enviable wardrobe of leading lady Olivia Pope. Although Olivia’s style is much less funky and risk taking as Patricia Fields’ choices, her professional attire is something to behold as it is neither boring nor inappropriate. Bravo Lyn Paolo for pulling me out of my post-STC fashion funk!
