I’m a sucker for Christmas and the Holiday spirit. Each year, this time of year, I’m the happiest girl alive. Christmas fairs, hot cocoa, sledding, Christmas presents, tree decorations, fireworks, snow ball fights, making snow puppets, resolutions, Christmas music, good food, happy people, and basically everything else associated with the holidays season can count on my enthusiasm. Therefore, I absolutely love Christmas and New Year’s TV specials. I think they bring out the best in TV series. Sure, they’re often over the top cliché and kitschy, but who doesn’t secretly love drama, merry Christmas songs, and kissing in the snow. Who doesn’t want to see some of our TV families living up to good old Christmas and New Year’s values such as forgiveness, resolutions, and peace? Who doesn’t love the coziness of the Christmas tree standing tall and proud next to the fireplace? Who doesn’t love wearing woolly Christmas sweaters and being thrilled because you can finally unwrap your Christmas gifts. I admit I do. And to convince you, I’ll share my list of marvelous Christmas and New Year’s specials with you. I’m not saying that these are my all-time favorite TV shows, but they do have great Christmas/Holidays episodes and these days, that counts for something! For those who’re not to be convinced: haters gonna hate… Continue reading

Black Friday shopping. For some, it’s the equivalent of an Olympic event, requiring hours of physical and mental preparation in a quest for the ultimate goal of getting all the deals. For others, it sounds like a waking nightmare and they’d rather just sit at home and eat leftovers all day. I fall somewhere in between, and I have found a happy medium when it comes to Black Friday shopping. I participate, I enjoy it, I get some good deals and I don’t get super stressed out.
So if you’re not the sort of person who wants to wait in line at Best Buy at 2am and punch people in the face to get one of the four cheap BluRay players they have in stock, but are still interested in taking advantage of some Black Friday deals, this article is for you. Over the past few years, my fiancé and I have gradually refined our approach to Black Friday shopping, and I’m going to share with you what we do and how we stay sane. Continue reading

When I saw these DIY Ornament Vases by Gimme Some Style, my first thought was I need to have a holiday party so I can make these as place settings / favors! I could easily see a small name tag attached or even written directly on the ornament itself and it would make a great take home memento at the end of the night. I could even picture them being used at a holiday themed wedding!

I’m a cold weather girl. If I didn’t have to deal with 90+ degree days ever in a year, I’d be happy. So I’d like to share a bit about something I really love. Love so much I can’t wait for it to arrive, hate to see it go, and hope I get bunches in between. Snow! Continue reading
There is something about old fashioned Christmas tree light bulbs that makes me incredibly nostalgic. Seeing them brings back wonderful holiday memories Christmases at my grandmother’s house. She always used the old fashioned lights on her tree and seeing them brings a smile to my face. At the same time, I am not a big fan of how they look on my own Christmas tree. Call me strange, but I feel like they clunky and odd on my tree even though they always seemed perfect on hers. When I came across these DIY Vintage Glitter Bulbs by The Moody Fashionista, I found the perfect way to include the nostalgia of vintage Christmas bulbs into my holiday decor, while sticking to my preference of the smaller bulbed lights on my tree.
When I was growing up, my family didn’t really celebrate holidays. Still, my dad’s company provided all their employees with free turkeys around Thanksgiving, so it’s not like I never knew what it was like to have turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie. In fact, my mom’s recipe for pumpkin pie is absolutely the best – she just didn’t need it to be Thanksgiving to make it. Continue reading
Every Christmas my family leaves the A Christmas Story marathon on for a full twenty fours in the background as they go about their holiday traditions. Sometimes it’s muted with holiday music blasting in place of the dialogue and at other times a hush falls over the house as someone turns up their favorite part and everyone recites the lines along with the characters like some odd Christmas version of A Rocky Horror Picture Show. Every year I swear I am going to buy my dad one of those fraj-eel-a leg lamp’s that must be from Italy for two reasons: one being it’s his favorite part of the movie and he would definitely put it right in my parents’ front window; and two my mother would have a coronary just like the mom in the movie and that would be hilarious. Merry Christmas!!! Time seems to be flying in the final run down to the main event and I can barely keep up! I’m writing this bathed in the glow of twinkling fairy lights, cuddled under a blanket watching Mad Men reruns – Heaven!
To me, this season brings a sense of nostalgia wrapped in spice and dried fruit; that’s not the case for everyone. Less than half my family like Christmas pudding, so post Christmas dinner it’s always a struggle to find them a suitable dessert.
Not wanting to rely on the typical chocolate dessert I played around with other childhood memories, in the hope that one day I will get to experience a ‘White Christmas’ and my Grandmother’s brandy butter. The result, sweet white cupcakes with a hint of booze, the perfect way to finish Christmas dinner. Continue reading
