The Very Best of Fifty Shades Fan Trailers

I first became aware of the Fifty Shades of Grey fan trailer phenomenon when someone sent me a link to a trailer (featured below) by Chelsea Lincoln. I was amazed by how real it looked and found myself clicking from one of her videos to the next continually surprised by the finesse and attention to detail that went into making them. From there, I was quickly surfing around youtube watching one trailer after another amazed by the sheer quantity of fan created trailers out there and sometimes amazed by the quality of these creations, like in the case of Ms. Lincoln’s. After yelling at the friend who sent me the original link (I seriously wound up losing at least two hours of work time), I moved on and forgot about the Fifty Shades fan trailers for awhile… until The Daily Quirk started receiving emails about them.

Everyday more and more emails started pouring in. Could we write about someone’s trailer? Had we seen this amazing trailer? How come we didn’t mention the the trailers in our Fifty Shades of Obsessed article? All the attention the topic of Fifty Shades fan trailers was getting got us thinking, why aren’t we writing about them? We decided the people had spoken and we needed to get on this pronto and let you submit your creations for consideration in the article. It was hard choosing just a few (and by hard I mean a lot of fun to do, but so difficult deciding!), but below are some of our favorite Fifty Shades Fan Trailer submissions!

This is the Fifty Shades fan trailer that first caught my attention, but it’s not the only great trailer created by Chelsea Lincoln of Sunshinedoll 27 Productions. It was difficult deciding which one of her submissions to include and I highly recommend you check out her youtube channel to see the others!

What we loved about this trailer, besides the obviously amazing picture and sound quality, was how incredibly skillfully it was put together. It hits on all the major plot points and we even get to see some of the iconic story items like the contract and Ana with her laptop (did you catch that laters baby email?!?).

The Daily Quirk: What inspired you to make this trailer?

Chelsea Lincoln: Being a HUGE Fan of Fifty Shades of Grey I really wanted to capture the sexiness that I got from reading the book(s). Plus I have a passion for trailers and I wanted to make a trailer fast pace and quick. We all watch trailers to movies and tv shows all the time. I wanted to create that for Fifty Shades Of Grey, I wanted to create it for myself and for the other Greysessed Fans like me.

TDQ: Movie trailers are meant to attract fans to certain aspects of a movie. What were you trying to tell fans with yours?

CL: I think the biggest part of trailers or any kind of promo is getting the audience excited and wanting more. That’s always my goal when making any trailer. Another thing that was important to me was staying true to the book as close as I could. I was very specific with the clips I used so the fans would know exactly what scene I was showing and that they felt it was the real thing. I also wanted to show chemistry of the main leads and the dirty love play that is one of the many flavors of the growing love story.

TDQ: Fan made trailers are limited to the material available to the creator. What scene would you have liked to include in the trailer, but could not find footage to recreate?

CL: I don’t know if there was a specific scene I wish I had, so I could include footage from but I wish I had more footage of the actors saying lines that came straight out of the book. I think dialogue is very important to tell the story in trailers. But If I had to decide on one scene I’d have to say the scene where Christian shows up to Ana’s work. When I read that scene I couldn’t stop laughing. Knowing a little bit about Christian’s little secret before Ana did was very entertaining. It’s playful and leads to questions like. “Why does he wan’t these specific items?” It is a great set up in my opinion and it doesn’t give away anything but leaves you intrigued.

TDQ: What made you choose the actor & actress for your trailer?

CL: There are a lot of Fan Favorite Actors out there so trying to please everyone is nearly impossible but I knew I wanted to stick with Fan Favorite Actors and picking Actors that I knew I had a lot of footage to play with.  Knowing White Collar really well I thought, “all right Matt Bomer lets make you Christian”. I had noticed that there was a lot of Matt and Alexis Bledel YouTube videos out there in YouTube World, so I thought to myself, Chelsea lets see what you can whip up with these two.

TDQ: Why do you think he makes the perfect Christian Grey?

CL: On facebook I saw someone post a photo of Matt Bomer as Christian Grey and right away I was like “YES” !!! I think it had a lot to do with the “SUIT” !!!! So I get why people love him. I of course like to stay open minded to many actors because I just don’t want to get disappointed in the end. The way Matt owns the rooms on the show White Collar reminds me so much of Christian. He can be playful, he can be sexual, he can be down right in charge. Those all point to thumbs up for me.

TDQ: Why do you think she makes the perfect Anastasia Steele?

CL: Alexis Bledel, I can just really see her playing the character of Ana. In most of her movies she’s a book nerd who is easily intimated in many situations. I feel that sums up Ana in just a few words. Plus she is an older actress that looks younger so I think she can be mature with the adult material. She also naturally has those stunning Blue Eyes that are described in the book; they really are breath taking along with her pale skin and natural brown hair. I would not be disappointed if she was picked.

TDQ: If you could have control over any one detail of the actual film besides the actors, what would you want to make sure they got right?

CL: I would want to have control over the screenplay. The whole structure of the movie is going to based off the script. I want to make sure the script keeps in all the little details that the fans of the book know and hold so close to them. The fans didn’t just fall in love with the characters they fell in love of the world that was created by E.L. James, the sweet parts and the dirty parts. If the script isn’t true to the book then I don’t see how anything else matters.

This trailer by Lauren Pittman stood out from the bunch for so many reasons. First and foremost, we loved how subtly intense it was, creating an element of sexiness and danger without over the top graphic scenes. We have to imagine the filmmakers are going to need to do the same to manage an R rating for the actual movie and would not be disappointed one bit if they took their ques from Lauren. We also loved that she went black and white and classical. It screamed Christian Grey to us!

The Daily Quirk: What inspired you to make this trailer?

Lauren Pittman: I just loved the Books, and the trailers I kept coming across did not seem to fit with what  I saw in my head as I was reading.

TDQ: Movie trailers are meant to attract fans to certain aspects of a movie. What were you trying to tell fans with yours?

LP: Usually, when people hear about or comment on the book, they focus on the sexual aspect of the story. I wanted to show more of the emotion and Christian Grey’s state of mind.

TDQ: Fan made trailers are limited to the material available to the creator. What scene would you have liked to include in the trailer, but could not find footage to recreate?

LP: The interview scene between Christian and Anastasia.

TDQ: What made you choose the actor & actress for your trailer?

LP: Ryan Gosling is the KING of the codependent, emotionally damaged romantic tragedy (ie. Blue Valentine, The Notebook, Drive). Plus, the fact that he is a fantastic actor and gorgeous didn’t hurt, either. 😉 He and Emma Stone had such great chemistry in Crazy, Stupid, Love I thought they’d be great as Fifty Shades’ Christian & Anastasia.

TDQ: Why do you think he makes the perfect Christian Grey?

LP: A lot of the people that comment on my trailer say that he’s ‘too sweet looking’ and ‘not edgy enough’ but, I think that’s the key to pulling off the perfect Christian Grey. His looks are supposed to be a contradiction to what’s inside him. Gosling has proven time and time again (in movies like All Good Things, Drive, The Believer) that looks are not all there is. Behind that cool, handsome golden boy persona, there’s this battle going on inside him–a darkside.  To me, all that makes CG’s dark, twisted side much more exciting and provocative. Many people make the mistake of only seeing him as Noah from ‘The Notebook’ and ignore all the brilliant acting he’s done in his more intense movies.

TDQ: Why do you think she makes the perfect Anastasia Steele?

LP: Emma Stone is a fantastic actress, beautiful and has all the charisma to bring something different to Anastasia’s character–making her more real and relatable.

TDQ: If you could have control over any one detail of the actual film besides the actors, what would you want to make sure they got right?

LP: If I had control i’d retouch a few things like, Christian’s charitable work. This topic should be touched on a bit more. In the book, you only heard about CG feeding the hungry and how passionate he was about that but, why didn’t he start an organization for abused children, a domestic abuse shelter or a rehab center? Also, Ana’s infatuation for Christian. Because the book is a romance novel at heart, it falls into the ‘love at first sight’ trap, which is fine but, judging how these characters are and the fact that this is a movie adaptation, their infatuation should be a slower process. Lastly, it’d be great to see how Christian interacts with other people besides Anastasia (especially, his family and Taylor).

Watching this tastefully sexy trailer will give you an idea of why millions of women are eagerly anticipating the Fifty Shades movie. Marian created one hot trailer right down to the song and that is why had to include it.

The Daily Quirk: What inspired you to make this trailer?

Marian: The idea started started out actually when I was listening to a song called “Stripped” by the Shiny Toy Guns. And it got stucked in my head. And I just imagined that this could really fit for the FSOG movie. It’s as if the song is like sex to my ears.

TDQ: Movie trailers are meant to attract fans to certain aspects of a movie. What were you trying to tell fans with yours?

M: When I was making my video, I didn’t really think of any plot at all or how the trailer would flow. I just randomly throw all the bondage scenes that I got and some of the White Collar scenes and put it all together.

TDQ: Fan made trailers are limited to the material available to the creator. What scene would you have liked to include in the trailer, but could not find footage to recreate?

M: The bath tub and the contract signing scenes.

TDQ: What made you choose the actor for your trailer?

M: I chose Matt Bomer because I thought he’d be perfect and the absolute ideal for Christian Grey. He has the whole look on how CG is described in the book. In fact, I’ve never been so concerned on who will play a certain role in a movie ever before, but during the entire time I read the series, all I see is Matt Bomer.

TDQ: Why do you think he makes the perfect Christian Grey?

M: Everything on the description of Christian Grey from the physical looks to some of his mannerisms are almost similar to Matt Bomer. He’s charismatic and has a very charming personality. If you watch him in White Collar you will know what I’m talking about. And lastly, it’s pretty obvious that mojority of the fans of FSOG are also rooting for Matt Bomer.

TDQ: If you could have control over any one detail of the actual film besides the actors, what would you want to make sure they got right?

M: Lessen the sexuality and should not focus only on sex, so that it would not look like a porn film.

We chose this trailer by Stacy Finch because it really seemed to emphasize the love story aspect of the Christian Ana relationship. There was something sweet about it and we felt like it was unique in showcasing the romance front and center, allowing the sexiness and intrigue to take a little bit of a back seat for a few moments.

The Daily Quirk: What inspired you to make this trailer?

Stacy Finch: I loved the idea of Ian Somerhalder as Christian Grey, and I had some ideas that I didn’t see in the other trailers that I wanted to see.  So I decided to try it out and see if it would work.  This is my first video of something like this, so I didn’t expect for others to like it.

TDQ: Movie trailers are meant to attract fans to certain aspects of a movie. What were you trying to tell fans with yours?

SF: I wanted to show the fans the love story of the book.  Some feel this trilogy is full of dirty things and that the fans of the books are only interested in that part.  So I wanted to show the emotion part of the relationship.  The part that drew me in when I read the books.

TDQ: Fan made trailers are limited to the material available to the creator. What scene would you have liked to include in the trailer, but could not find footage to recreate?

SF: I would have loved to have scenes of Ian Somerhalder and Lucy Hale together.  It was very hard to create a story with two actors who have never worked together before.  So it took some imaginiation and creativity to get it to work.  But both Lucy and Ian had some great scenes I could take and use for the video that would work from scenes from the first book.  I have ideas and clips ready for the other two books.

TDQ: What made you choose the actor & actress for your trailer?

SF: The moment I read the description of Christian Grey, my first thought was Ian Somerhalder, and for the rest of the trilogy, he was just it for me.  Lucy came after I read the books.  I was confused on who could be Ana for a long time after.  Then I realized Lucy Hale would be perfect, and it was about 2 weeks after that,  she came out and announced that she would love to be “Anastasia”, it just made my decision for her to be Ana more of a reality and I supported her completely.

TDQ: Why do you think he makes the perfect Christian Grey?

SF: Everything about Ian Somerhalder is perfect for Christian Grey.  He has the acting down, which to me is one of the most important things.  He can play the hurt/troubled man, the caring, generous man, and he can play the love for a woman so well.  Along with the tempting “sex God” .  His role on The Vampire Diaries shows a lot of how Christian Grey is.  I am confident he would do the role justice.

But he also has the looks down perfect.  He is handsome, he has the lopsided grin, the smoldering grey eyes, the looks that make girl’s jaws drop, confidence, sex appeal, charm, and you can look in his eyes and tell he has a secret.  He doesn’t have the eyes that make you feel like you could be best friends, he has the eyes of someone who has a sexy intimidation, but yet you can’t wait to know more.  He draws you in.

He also has such a strong fan base for this role.  Not many knew who he was, but now that his name is out there more, the women are seeing he is perfect.  More are now watching his show “The Vampire Diaries” to get a feel  of his acting and how he comes across, and they all agree he is it.  Even my husband who read the books after me, feels Ian Somerhalder is perfect for the role. Then he decided to watch “The Vampire Diaries” (I had already been begging him to watch with me before, haha) to see if he can act the role, and that is when he was sold that he is perfect.

TDQ: Why do you think she makes the perfect Anastasia Steele?

SF: I think from watching “Pretty Little Liars”, watching her fall in love with an older man, someone she must keep a secret, and just the way she can show her emotions so well in her acting.  That makes me feel she could do Anastasia wonderfully.  I think her only downfall would be that she is not “pale”, but that is what they have makeup for 🙂  She also doesn’t have the bright blue eyes, but they have contacts for that, too.  Otherwise I think she would be perfect for this role. I love her looks and her acting so much.  She would also compliment Ian Somerhalder well.  He is actually her choice to play Christian Grey.  It just seems perfect!

TDQ: If you could have control over any one detail of the actual film besides the actors, what would you want to make sure they got right?

SF:Each time I have read a book before watching  a movie, I get disappointed a lot after the movie.  I would really love them to stay true to the book.  Not to add events that didn’t happen, and not to skip the important details.  Some things that may not seem important to the screen writers, but were important to the readers and the story.  The emails are so fantastic, I would love those to stay, there were times I was smiling and laughing at the witty titles and signatures of the emails.  So I would be so sad if they skipped those.  I really hope they do the books justice when they make this movie.  I am really excited to see what they do with it.

Stacy recommends checking out Ian Somerhalder as Christian Grey (as well as these other pages 12, 3, & 4 for more great Fifty Shades Content.

This Christian Grey-centric trailer by Dann Barba caught our attention because it’s an absolutely great depiction of the enigmatic Mr. Grey. You get a good feel for who he is and what kind of movie character he’ll be. Not to mention that the song featured in the trailer, “The Lightening Strike” by Snow Patrol, is a perfect fit!

The Daily Quirk: What inspired you to make this trailer?

Dann Barba: When I started reading Fifty Shades of Grey, I was just finishing watching White Collar and the image of Matt Bomer was fresh in my memory. The moment I saw him I thought, “THIS IS MR. GREY!” and I decided to make a trailer with Felicity Jones and Matt Bomer. But, I realized that many people didn’t want her as Anastasia. I thought it would be better if I made a video only featuring Matt Bomer. I’ve never done videos before that and “Meet Mr. Grey” was my second project. The scenes I imagined while reading actually fit the scenes from White Collar perfectly.

TDQ: Movie trailers are meant to attract fans to certain aspects of a movie. What were you trying to tell fans with yours?

DB: My story talks about Christian Grey as a man that has it all. The money, the women, the secret life no one around him knows about. I wanted to share my vision of Matt Bomer looking as if he stepped out of the pages of the trilogy. I also wanted to share how similar his Neal Caffrey character on White Collar is to Christian Grey.

TDQ: Fan made trailers are limited to the material available to the creator. What scene would you have liked to include in the trailer, but could not find footage to recreate?

DB: I did a lot of research for this video and looked everywhere to get scenes that recreated something from the books. I found what I was looking for, though I would have loved more romantic/sensual scenes from Matt Bomer.

TDQ: What made you choose the actor for your trailer?

DB: Matt Bomer just screams Christian Grey. He oozes Christian Grey with his looks, his charm, his acting chops. His character on White Collar is so similar to Mr. Grey, like I previously stated. Some of the gestures he does such as running his hands through his hair or how he is usually in fine suits. Neal Caffrey, like Christian Grey, also enjoys a glass of wine. I can go on!

TDQ: Why do you think he makes the perfect Christian Grey?

DB: He physically looks like Christian Grey. His hair, his facial features, his body type all match up to the description by EL James like no other actor being nominated for the role. Matt Bomer’s eyes alone speak volumes. They also appear gray at times, and he sure can have that intensity in his eyes that is necessary to play Christian Grey. We wonder sometimes if EL James was looking at Matt Bomer or watching White Collar as she was writing the trilogy. Matt Bomer has proved that he is an amazing actor and he is very capable of making women melt at the sight of him. After all, like Christian Grey, he has that male beauty that makes any woman swoon over him! “He’s not merely good looking, he’s the epitome of male beauty,” is perfect to describe Matt Bomer.

TDQ: If you could have control over any one detail of the actual film besides the actors, what would you want to make sure they got right?

DB: I think the only thing I would love is for them to respect the book as it is. Of course, it’s nearly impossible to take most of the sex scenes to the big screen, but scenes that should be spot on should be how Christian and Ana met, their dates, etc. Those things are sometimes changed from the writing when they are portrayed in the movies. I think that the Fifty Shades of Grey love story shouldn’t be drastically changed. I hope the movie scenes are just as we imagined while reading. And, with Matt Bomer playing Christian Grey, the movie will be beyond perfect.

Dann recommends checking out Matt Bomer as Christian Grey for more great Fifty Shades Content.

Oh boy, this trailer. It pushed the sexy limits of what we felt we could post on our site and still be tasteful and that is why we loved it!  If you’re faint of heart, eyes, or at work, you might want to wait till later to watch this one. Created by Bobby Parsley, this trailer puts Christian’s darker side front and center for your viewing enjoyment.

The Daily Quirk: What inspired you to make this trailer?

Bobby Parsley: I just loved the Books, and the trailers I kept coming across did not seem to fit with what  I saw in my head as I was reading.

TDQ: Movie trailers are meant to attract fans to certain aspects of a movie. What were you trying to tell fans with yours?

BP: I was trying to show case all the fun points of Christian Grey, with The plane trip to Ana. The Glider he took her in and of course the wonderful world of BDSM. That in which only Ian Somerhalder can pull off.

TDQ: Fan made trailers are limited to the material available to the creator. What scene would you have liked to include in the trailer, but could not find footage to recreate?

BP: I would have loved to have found a clip with Emilia Clarke and Ian Somerhalder together making love, but the biggest thing I think my trailer is missing would have to be  the moment she fell into his office. That with out a doubt is the pivotal moment.

TDQ: What made you choose the actor & actress for your trailer?

BP: I could not for the life of me picture anyone other than Ian Somerhalder for Christian Grey  from the very beginning. As for Ana, it took me a bit longer as there are many actresses that I could see pulling it off quite well.

TDQ: Why do you think he makes the perfect Christian Grey?

BP: He is the embodiment of Christian in every way from the body , to the scorching grey eyes. Looks aside, he has the acting ability to be a controlling arrogant billionaire, he has the most loving smile and in his real life he stands for all the things Christian Grey stands for in the books. He is realities Christian Grey.

TDQ: Why do you think she makes the perfect Anastasia Steele?

BP: Emilia Clarke has a innocent yet mysterious nature about her, she also has the ability to be believable. She can also be a independent self controlling woman and that is the embodiment of Anastasia Steele.

TDQ: If you could have control over any one detail of the actual film besides the actors, what would you want to make sure they got right?

BP: I think that I would want them to insure that they got all of Christians back ground, add alittle bit of depth to his child hood like when he flinches thinking someone will touch him, or the nightmares he has. Nothing will make this book if they cant show his many Fifty Shades of F***ed Up.

You can find out more about Bobby on her Facebook Page.

This trailer, by Sheira Lamphier, focuses on the tortured romantic side of Mr. Grey. It stood out to us because it emphasized Christian Grey as more of a man in love (even if he has no idea how to be one) than just a sex symbol.

The Daily Quirk: What inspired you to make this trailer?

Sheira Lamphier: Of course my love for the books was what basically inspired me to create this trailer. I have seen a lot of other fan made trailers and they-re really good. So I decided to make one trailer that stands out from the rest. This was actually the first time I have dared to make a video. So it’s all just basic stuff, nothing fancy and no special effects.

TDQ: Movie trailers are meant to attract fans to certain aspects of a movie. What were you trying to tell fans with yours?

SL: I wanted to tell my fellow fans that amidst all the bdsm, this is a story about love. That this may be an erotic novel full of kinky sex scenes, but at it’s core is a true love story that brought us to tears and broke our hearts.

TDQ: Fan made trailers are limited to the material available to the creator. What scene would you have liked to include in the trailer, but could not find footage to recreate?

SL: One particular scene that im sure a lot of us Fifty shades fans would love to see was the “Christian the Submissive” scene.  I could reread that part of the book over and over and still have that same heart crushing and tear jerking moment each and every time.

TDQ: What made you choose the actor & actress for your trailer?

SL: As I was reading the books, Matt Bomer was the only one I can visualize as Christian Grey.  And seeing him on White Collar with co-star Alexandra Daddario, I thought she fits Ana’s description very well and the chemistry they have together is a plus.

TDQ: Why do you think he makes the perfect Christian Grey?

SL: He’s got the Christian Grey look.  He’s one of the most talented and versatile actors of his generation. And the comments he made on his previous roles will make you think that he’s talking about Christian Grey himself.  Here’s a few…  “I think there’s a really quixotic quality about the character and ultimately, underneath it all, he’s kind of a three-year-old. I mean, he doesn’t have a lot of impulse control. He doesn’t even understand the concept of no. There’s always a way to get into things and he’s always testing his boundaries.”,

“I love playing the dichotomy of someone who’s smooth, graceful and hyper-intelligent on the surface but underneath is really a big kid, and a romantic at heart. He’s always testing his boundaries. You have to figure out why they do what they do on an empathic, human level. You can’t judge them or you’re toast.”,

“He’s this suave, slick criminal, but he’s this real romantic at heart who’s looking for the love of his life. That’s the part of him that I relate to.”

“What I loved about him from the get go, was that he was flawed. He wasn’t-I mean, he had this-he has this veneer of the charming, hyper-intelligent, eloquent, sly mastermind, but underneath, he was really a kind of diehard romantic who would go to any lengths to find the love of his life.”

“I liked the fact that, even though the fun he puts on is so suave and debonair, underneath there’s somebody who is also-has a hard time-has always really relied on himself and doesn’t really trust a lot of people.”

TDQ: If you could have control over any one detail of the actual film besides the actors, what would you want to make sure they got right?

SL: The love story underneath it all.

Sheira recommends checking out Team Bomer for Christian Grey for more great Fifty Shades Content.

So you know they had asked if they could showcase this video but I said No on the account of that it’s not a “Trailer”.
