“Red Dawn” prepares to invade movie theaters this Thanksgiving

Hollywood has always been a fan of making old things new again.

One of the best and newest examples of this comes with the recent news of Disney purchasing Lucas Films and announcing a 2015 release of Star Wars VII, but its not the only one. In recent years, films like Star Trek21 Jump Street and The Amazing Spider-Man have taken old favorites and made them into box office wonders. A movie with the potential to continue this reboot-legacy is Red Dawn (based on a 1984 film of the same name), scheduled for release on Nov. 21, 2012.

The movie revolves around a group of young people, calling themselves “The Wolverines,” trying to protect their small Washington town taken prisoner after it becomes the target of a surprise invasion by North Koreans. With big name stars like Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers, Snow White and the Huntsmen), Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) and Adrianne Palicki (Supernatural, Friday Night Lights) all attached to the project, this what-if movie about the start of a potential World War III has the potential to draw in some might crowds this Thanksgiving. Add that with fans of the original 1984 Red Dawn starring Patrick Swayze and Lea Thompson and the movie industry might just breathe new life into a classic reboot.

Despite an almost two year delay from its originally scheduled release date due to Metro-Goldwyn Mayer’s financial troubles, Red Dawn brings enough fresh air to revitalize and excite movie-goers when it comes to action movies once more.
