(Update 03/30/2014: Read the latest news on the here!)

Jamie McGuire’s New York Times Bestselling Beautiful Disaster is slowly but surely making its way to the big screen! The book tells the story of Abby, a girl trying to escape her past by adopting a prim and proper look and lifestyle in college, whose plans are derailed when she begins falling for Travis Maddox. Maddox is a tattooed, motorcycle riding, bare knuckle fighting bad boy, with some issues of his own. He’s not only the talk of the university for his exploits with the ladies on campus, but also the cousin of Abby’s best friend America’s boyfriend (got all that?), which puts Abby right in his crosshairs. What happens next is an addictive love story that had readers everywhere flipping pages as quickly as they could to find out the fate of these beautifully flawed characters.

Many are calling Beautiful Disaster the next Fifty Shades of Grey, partially because of the troubled romance aspect and partly because of the book’s evolution from self publishing to bestseller, but in my opinion the similarities end there. Where Fifty Shades of Grey is all “inner goddess” and where will “it” happen next, most of the excitement in Beautiful Disaster comes from the romance and build up to the steam; perhaps that’s why both Warner Bros and CBS Films were originally trying to get their hands on the rights to Beautiful Disaster, which will undoubtedly be easier to adapt into feature film than Fifty Shades.

Warner Bros won the rights bidding war and both a producer and screenwriter are already attached to the film. Donald De Line, whose credits include I Love You ManGreen Lantern, and Michael Bay’s latest, Pain and Gain, is reportedly set to produce and Julia Hart has been hired to write the screenplay. Hart is also slated as screenwriter for The Keeping Room, a Civil War drama directed by Daniel Barber and starring Olivia Wilde and Hailee Steinfeld.

As of publication, there still isn’t any talk of a director being attached to the Beautiful Disaster film or any casting news, although there is no shortage of fan opinions on who should play the leading roles. We won’t know much about possible casting until more of the key players behind the movie’s creation are in place, but what we do know is some of the actors Jamie McGuire could see playing the parts. In an August 2012 interview with Maryse’s Book Blog,  McGuire said she didn’t have anyone in mind for the female lead Abby, but she did have an opinion on Travis, America, and Shepley! McGuire named actor Chris Hemsworth as her “first choice” for Travis after seeing his performances in Thor and The Avengers going as far as to say, “Chris could definitely nail the fierce and soft sides of Travis in a way few actors could.” As for best friend America, McGuire thought actress Britney Snow would be “fantastic” and Cam Gigandet would be “the perfect” Shepley.

While you wait for more Beautiful Disaster production news to be released, you can get your Beautiful Disaster fix by reading Walking Disaster, the Travis Maddox Point of View Sequel when it comes out in April 2013.

I don’t know how I would feel about those actors but I sure know that I am ready and waiting for a movie of this incredible book. I’ve lost count on the number of times I’ve read this book. It’s too good to be true!

  2. Thairiny Marques says:

I’m sorry but I do not see C. H as Travis. I think Colton Haynes would be ideal for the role. Maybe Lucy Hale as Abby.

  3. nicole says:

I could see Cam fitting this role very well, but what I want to know is how many 12 year olds have read this book for Nick Jonas to have so many votes. What’s going on with that?!

  4. mikky says:

Guys, don’t judge the predicted actors. You will never know how they will truly perform until you see them in action : ).

  5. Mahara says:

I’d definitely see Tom Hardy as Travis. Or the Hemsworth brother who played Thor. Definitely not Adam Levine-he’s way to skinny. Either way i’m failing to see how this book (or even Fifty Shades) can become a good movie unless they add lots of extra plot to it. Don’t get me wrong BD is one of my fave romance novels of all time but I always feel like romance books make for better reading than viewing. I really hope the film is super successful but I don’t see it being a box office hit. (but then again all those bland Nicholas Sparks-based movies have done pretty well and BD had a better plot than they did so fingers crossed for Ms Mcguire)

im 15 years old i have read the book and its amazing very well detail.i am looking forward to seeing the movie. But i honestly think that “Matt Lanter” would make an amazing “Travis” because he has that bad boy look. “Ryan Guzman” as “Shepley” he has that innocent look and seems great for that part. “Alex Flinn” as “Parker” he has that blonde hair that she she had wrotein the book. “Emmy Rossum” as “abby” because she has that inosent but misterious look and last but not least “Blake Lively” as “America”. i think that they would be great for the movie “Beautiful Disaster” because they are young just like she had said in her book and amazing actors inmy opinion.

  7. Crystal says:

Phoebe Tonkin or Diana Agron as Abby and Kellen Lutz as Travis plus your pics above for America and Shepley would be perfect.

  8. Maria says:

when I read the books the person I pictured as travis was M. Shadows. He would make a fantastic Travis! I can’t see anyone else playing him. I love C.H. but just not for playing Travis.

    • Chastity says:

Totally agree with Shadows playing Travis. Not that I think he will with Avengeds’ new album but he’s definitely the person I picture when reading. Tats galore, dimples and the total bad boy persona.

  9. kate says:

ryan guzman or colton hayes for travis
melissa benoist for abby (trust me, she could be innocent and insanely hot and she has chemistry with anyone)

  10. Nat says:

I have three in mind that I think would fit Travis perfectly, and they are Tom Hardy, Matt Lanter and Cam Gigandet. However my only trouble beeing that they’re clearly not fresh out of their teens. Still thats not too big a deal only which could be overlooked by a bit of make up and lighting I’m sure.
As for Abby, I’m still undecided I’m not too fussy as long as its not Kristen Stewert.

  11. Dee says:

I definitely pictured Mark Salling (Puckerman from Glee) as Travis. Am I the only one?! I think he would be fit perfectly!

  12. Ediec says:

I think Chris Hemsworth actually looks to mature and old for this part. He is in his late twenties from what i remember but he looks older. Tbey have to be able to pass for college age. I think Colton Haynes or Chris Zylka would be great for Travis. Cam Gigandet would be great also but he already did Never Back Down and im not sure if he could pass for early twenties now. But i dont see him as Shepley because he has more of an edge to him and Shepley seems more good guy. I do like the idea of Lucy Hale for Abby. Diana Agron could be good for America or Hayden Penetierre.

  13. Tiah Joyce says:

Ohmygosh. I’m so excited. I can’t wait until they bring out a movie. EEEEPPPP! I think Nicholas Lemons for Travis. I know he’s not really an actor, but I think he really suits the role. I also think Ashley Benson for America, and Cam would be perfect for Shepley. As for Abby, I’m not sure. Lucy Hale (love her so so so so much) might work, as would Emmy Rossum. Undecided for Abby me thinks.

  14. Nicole says:

I love cam as shepley!! But chris for Trav no….what about Adam Levine???? He’d be perfect and already has tattoos! Or Tyler Hoechiln from Teen Wolf!!!! Oh my gosh he’s a dream boat 🙂

  15. Kate says:

Thomas McDonell as Travis, James Preston as Shepley.. As for Abby i’m thinking Aimee Teergarden and Blake Lively as America 🙂

  16. Christa Goddard says:

I want to hear everything about the Maddox brothers books as well as the movie.when will we get some updates on possible release dates????

  17. WaitingForTheMovie says:

I think that all the options of fans are amazing but I could definitely see Chris Hemsworth playing Travis. Or Chaning Tatum would be amazing. I can see them being Travis, thats for sure. I hope they won’t pick someone tiny and little just because he has some muscles and a terrifying impression. I want to see someone who can reflect Travis’ emotions and who has a good looking face and a body.

  18. BDFAN says:

ok.. chaning tatum as travis no doubt, and mybe melissa benoist or julianna guill as abby… mmm i think america could be teresa palmer and chor overstreet as shepley. I CANT WAIT TO SEE THIS MOVIE.. THE BOOK WAS A M A Z I N G.

  19. Meagan Rogers says:

marlaina wilamowski for Abby. Colton Haynes for Travis. they have to be young after all. This actress is new to the acting scene, only starring in musicals before but she’s a great actress, ive seen tests that she’s done for 2 movies before. she was brilliant. check her out here

  20. Saydie says:

Colton Haynes would be perfect. He’s young and might I add, VERY good looking. He is definitely cut out for the role. And him and Britney are great friends so it would be amazing to see them play these roles together. Or Holland Roden. They share great chemistry and I would LOVE to see them in this movie together as well.

  21. nikisunkel says:

Not Tom Hardly please!!!!! I think Chris would be perfect although he’s a bit old???? I always imagined a youuuung and way more muscular/badass Hugh Dancy for Travis, although Colton Haynes wouldn’t be a bad idea at all. For Abby, I always pictured a mix of Kristen Stewart(with black, hair, like when she was in SWATH?) Emma Watson and Emilia Clarke. For America I imagined Jennifer Lawrence, and for Shepley I always imagined Colton Haynes lolol. I pictured Liam Hemsworth as Parker, and Ezra Miller as Finch. :))

  22. Claudia S says:

A friend recommended this book, and no lie I am obsessed along with everyone else on this page! No lie, I have read this book 4 times and I am currently rereading it right now. I really do hope this book becomes a movie, because this is honestly on of my top books. I have spent lots of time thinking about who would play each part. For America, I would definitly do Blake Lively. For Shep, I would do Chris Evans hands down. For Travis, I would have to go with Ryan Guzman, Colton Haynes or Channing Tatum. Those are the kind of guys I picture when I am readin this book. Finally, Abby, which is actually the hardest for me. I can picture someone like Leighton Meester or Diana Argon as a brunette! Parker is a struggle, I picture a skinny blonde boy, maybe Alex Pyttefer!

  23. Dev says:

I think Britney Snow for abby.. she has the light blue/gray eyes and light hair.. like abby does in the books.. for Travis i think either Matt Lanter, Ryan Guzman would play a good “badboy” for sure. Colton Haynes could be a good one too.

  24. faye corpuz says:

I would really really love Colton Haynes as Travis Maddox, he is soooooooo perfect for the role!! C’mon people!
