Much is being made of Michael Bay’s planned live action re-boot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film franchise, and the buzz is not likely to die down anytime soon after the recent casting announcements. Not too long ago, it was announced that Megan Fox would be taking on the iconic role of April O’Neil (apparently Bay and Fox have kissed and made up after their heavily publicized feud following the second Transformers film) and now word is out that Will Arnett will be joining the cast as well. Although his role is still being kept under wraps, it appears he won’t be playing the Casey Jones, the ninja turtles’ hockey mask wearing friend, so that leaves us to speculate if he’ll be taking on a known character like Splinter or Shredder, or a new character added for the film.
If Arnett is playing a newly created character, it won’t be the only change Bay is making to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe. In this iteration, Bay is changing the turtle’s origin story so that the turtles are some sort of aliens (not pet turtles that fell into the sewer and became mutated by toxic ooze) and shortening the title to Ninja Turtles. These changes have many fans up in arms prompting an online message from Bay asking fans to “chill” and wait to see what he has in store for the film, which is set to release in summer 2014.
