A Long Awaited Spring is Here: Spring 2013 Fashion Trends!

2013 Spring Runway Trends

While spring trends such as Easter egg pastels and flowering prints are a dime a dozen a few notable and daring trends have emerged from the likes of Balenciaga, Fendi, and Alexander McQueen.

These designers have stayed within their realms in some ways while also exhibiting new trends I’m both scared and thrilled to try. So whether you’re a sworn fashionista or an average gal trying to spunk up your wardrobe for spring- listen up! There are five main trends taking the fashion world by stride this spring.

First we start with Alexander McQueen’s spring 2013 looks. The most radical, in my opinion, will assault your fashion senses- or shall I say sting? Alexander McQueen is known for his dramatic fashion sense and has once again taken over this season with his new and electrifying “Queen Bee” look. Beehive hats draping the face, tight fitted skirts and sexy sleek blazers all set in honeycomb patterns are exclusively shown in his runway looks for this spring. While most of us would love to be able to flounce around in a beekeepers mistress look, it is not exactly practical. So what can we take from this? Not only does the honeycomb pattern reveal a fresh new look but also the accents of gold and black add some sophistication to outfits. Black is a surprisingly popular trend this spring, but to avoid weighing your closet down in funeral attire add a flash of gold with jewelry or wear a fun graphic tee with tight black skinny jeans.

The second trend that fits hand in hand with Alexander McQueen’s look is Balenciaga’s black and white look. Large and flirty ruffled skirts paired with simple white tops set a clean and stark look for spring. Wear a lightweight angled skirt with a simple white blouse tucked in for a fun going-out outfit. If this look is too bland, simply add a bright necklace or some colorful bracelets to offset the black and white.

Fendi never fails with fun and exciting colors. This spring neon pinks and corals were very dominant on the runway. Following that fresh use of black and white seen throughout multiple designers’ lines, Fendi exhibited a lot of white pants and trousers. For a more everyday look, pair some white jeans with a blouse that sports a pop of color to spice up your wardrobe. Vibrant, warm colors have been very popular this spring and will attract many admiring eyes so don’t be afraid to pick a more vivacious color then usual!

Another popular trend this spring that will definitely continue into the summer are bangles. Last year wearing a multitude of bracelets became very popular and the trend is slowly transforming to replace individual bracelets with more chunky bangles. In many stores, thin bangles come in a set with various other colors so it won’t take long to collect a sizable collection of arm candy. Bangles also look cute when paired with an everyday watch. The current spring trend carries over with this jewelry in fun warm colors offset by wardrobe staples of basic whites and beiges.

Class Open Back Top

Lastly, open back tops and cool colors such as mint and sky blue are very “in” this year. Find a blouse with a simple front and a more open back seen in stores like The Red Dress Boutique! Colors that you can’t go wrong with besides your daring pinks and reds are their opposites- cool and serene blues and greens. Don’t flood you’re closet with all bright and exciting colors, add muted or pastel colors to act as a canvas for your more bold accessories. After all, no matter the current trend some things never truly go out of style. Spring is still spring isn’t it?
