This year’s Billboard Music Awards is going to be anything but dull. Hosted by Tracy Morgan, the show will feature performances by Katy Perry, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Christina Aguilera, Bruno Mars, Prince, and many more. This award show in particular has an edge above the rest. Billboard and data partners track popular music based on sales, downloads, airtime, touring, and streaming. Fans can also participate before the show. They can vote for their favorite hit artist for the Milestone Award, where the winner is selected based on public votes. Fans can also listen to music samples from 5 new artists on Billboard’s website and vote for a winner to play during the BBMA’s Post-Party.

The show, which will take place is Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, is currently selling tickets at relatively cheap prices considering the performances. Unlike the Grammy Awards, which aired in February, and American Music Awards, set to air in November, Billboard’s award ceremony reflects the most popular music tracked since last spring. Finalists for Top 100 Song this year include songs by Fun., Gotye, Carly Rae Jepsen and Maroon 5. Madonna and Prince are both reported to be honored as Top Touring Artists. Though the awards are distinguished by their popularity among the public, genres for the awards range from hip-hop to country to pop and rock.

The BBMA’s lineup of performances is enough reason to tune in this year, if not just for Tracy Morgan’s commentary. The awards will air May 19th 2013 at 8:00/7:00 PM Central on ABC. Be sure to cast your votes for the Milestone and Post-Post party awards and tune in to see who won.
