When you think country music, you probably think cowboy hats, pick-up trucks, girls crying, boys fighting, and people drinking alcohol all the time. In some cases, you would be correct in your way of thinking, but country music is not limited to that stereotype with a variety of sounds and artists emerging in recent years to suit just about anyone’s taste.

It’s the artists themselves that make country music so appealing to me. I biggest reason I was looking forward to watching the 2013 CMT Awards was because I love almost every single artist that is presenting or performing.  I am a country princess through and through…even though I live in the city.  The performances I was most looking forward to seeing were: Hunter Hayes, Taylor Swift, Florida Georgia Line, and Carrie Underwood.
Jason Aldean, country music star, and Kristen Bell, famous actress, hosted the 12th annual celebration that took place in Nashville, Tennessee.  I am dying to visit the capital of country music and hope one day I can!  Kristen hosted the show last year as, but this was Jason’s first time hosting an award show.

Lenny Kravitz opened up the show with his song, “American Woman.” One of the hosts, Jason Aldean joined him as well. Every time I hear this song, I wonder where Taylor Swift is since it’s the song that plays right before she goes on stage for her RED tour.  This song definitely got the crowd going.

Kristen told Jason that he has to “rip” on the country music stars, but both seemed to have a hard time with it. Jason wound up telling Taylor Swift that country will always be her home and they are proud of her (I was shocked to say the least and very happy that he gave her a compliment) and   Kristen tried to make fun of Carrie Underwood, but couldn’t do it.

I am obsessed with this song, so I was very happy that they won.  Anyone who is friends with my girl Taylor is great in my book.  Plus they are mighty fine looking, in my opinion.

Anna Sophia Robb, actress from The Carrie Diaries, and Brantley Gilbert, country bad boy, introduce the next performer: Miranda Lambert.  She performed her new song, “Mama’s Broken Heart.” I love Miranda’s bad ass attitude.  Plus her pink microphone is awesome.  She is a fantastic singer and Blake Shelton is one lucky man to be married to her.

The Avett Brothers introduced the newest artist to country music, Kasey Musgraves. She performed her new song, “Blowin’ Smoke.”  She is a huge success so far. Almost everyone I know on Twitter is obsessed with her.  I am not a fan, but I wish her all the best.

Dog Chapman, the Bounty Hunter, and his wife Beth were the next presenters for the Performance of the Year award.  The winner was Miranda Lambert for her song, “Over You.” This is a very emotional song that she wrote with her husband Blake Shelton.  It’s about his brother that passed away a few years ago.

Florida Georgia Line then told the audience that show was being broadcast to all the military and armed forces deployed overseas and introduced the next performer: Darius Rucker.  He performed his song, “Wagon Wheel.” Lady Antebellum joined him on stage as well.  The entire audience was cheering and singing along.

Jason Aldean introduced the next performer, Hunter Hayes.  His performance was outside of the Bridgestone Arena.  He sang his song, “I Want Crazy.” Oh my goodness.  I am a huge Hayniac.  Hunter is just so adorable and I am completely obsessed with this song.  It reminds me of the relationship I have with my boyfriend.  I listen to it at least once or twice a day.  I need to see this kid in concert! Girls in the audience were wearing heart shaped sunglasses with “Crazy” written on them.  I want a pair now.

Hunter sent it over to Luke Bryan, who was playing across the street at a place called The Stage.  He sang his song, “Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye.” He is a very talented singer and his voice gives me shivers. He then sent it back to the Arena for the next performance.  My girl Taylor!

Taylor performed her new single, “Red.”  Her dress was red and black.  Her guitar was red.  Her microphone was red.  Can you tell she loves the color red almost as much as I do? I am so biased, but this was the best performance of the night.  She had her band with her and back up dancers as well.  The lights on stage changed colors when she mentioned blue, grey, and red.  Taylor and her guitarist Paul Sidoti gave fantastic guitar solos as well.

Larry the Cable Guy was out next. He told Carrie Underwood to stop calling him because they are both married to other people now.  Carrie’s husband Mike was about to go onto the stage and beat him up jokingly.  I was cracking up. Larry presented the award for Collaborative Video of the Year.  The winner was Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, and Eric Church for their song, “The Only Way I Know.”

The Band Perry introduced the next performer: Keith Urban.  He sang his new song, “A Little Bit of Everything.” His guitar skills are amazing. Plus I am a sucker for his Australian accent.  He and his wife Nicole Kidman are cute together.

The Nationwide On Your Side Award for Best New Act winner was Hunter Hayes.  He definitely deserved this because he is a wonderful singer.  He is so adorable and humble.  Plus he is friends with my girl Taylor.  You know that means a lot in my book.

Jana Kramer and Charles Easton, stars of the hit TV shoe Nashville presented the award for Duo Video of the Year.  The winner was Florida Georgia Line.  In their acceptance speech, they mentioned my girl Taylor.  “Two in a row.  We are going to turn into Taylor Swift now.”  So awesome!

For having a baby on the way, Hilary can still rock like the best of ‘em.

Lenny Kravitz presented the award for Female Video of the Year.  The winner was Miranda Lambert for her song, “Mama’s Broken Heart.” She gave Carrie a hug and Taylor Swift a high five on her way to the stage.

Keith Urban introduced the next performance from Little Big Town.  They sang their song, “Break the Chain.” My girl Taylor was head banging along to the song.  Towards the end of the song, Keith joined them on stage for a guitar solo.

Dax Shepard and The Bacon brothers presented the award for Group Video of the Year.  The winner was Lady Antebellum for their song, “Downtown.” Then Kristen introduced Jason for his performance of “Night Train.”

Miranda Lambert presented the award for Male Video of the Year.  The winner was Blake Shelton for his song, “Sure Be Cool If You Did.” How cute that Miranda was able to give the award to her own husband? Sadly, he wasn’t able to be at the show, so she accepted on his behalf.

Rascal Flatts introduced the next performer, Carrie Underwood.  She dedicated her song, “See You Again” to the tornado victims of Oklahoma.  It was a very emotional performance.

Sheryl Crow and Kenny Rogers presented the award for Video of the Year.  The winner was Carrie Underwood for “Blown Away.”  I was a tiny bit disappointed that Taylor didn’t win.

Florida Georgia Line and Nelly closed out the show with their remix of “Cruise.” What a great song to close out the show with!

The 2013 CMT Awards were awesome like they are every single year.  I love country music and I hope the readers do as well.
