San Diego Comic-Con 2013 brought a ton of insight into the upcoming seasons of TV’s hottest shows, and smack-dab in the middle of all the revelations were the cast and producers of Supernatural, The CW’s monster-filled cult hit.

When we last left the Winchester boys, angels were falling from the sky. And no, not in the cheesy pickup line kind of way, but in the literal heavenly-warriors-are-plummeting-to-Earth kind of way. But that was just the beginning of our heroes’ problems. Castiel was drained of his angelic grace by Metatron and left to find his way in the world as a human, Sam was left struggling with the side effects of his trials to close the gates of Hell and Crowley was chained to a chair inside the church, sharing his feelings in a very un-King of Hell kind of way.

No one knew what to expect out of Season 9.

Cue Comic-Con with all of its hint-filled glory and the subsequent interviews that followed. While nothing too telling was revealed during the packed Hall H panel on the last day of the convention, there was enough revealed to get fans of the show begging for more. Here’s what we know so far:

  • Jim Beaver, the actor behind Supernatural‘s beloved Bobby, will be back in some form.
  • Also returning will be Felicia Day, who plays fan-favorite Charlie Bradbury.  “Obviously Felicia will be back,” executive producer Bob Singer teased during the panel. “We love her. We have big plans for her this year, and she is a delight.”
  • Those fallen angels won’t be disappearing any time soon. Showrunner Jeremy Carver said, “We’re going to learn pretty quickly that a world full of fallen angels is pretty much a free-for-all.” He continued by saying that this new angel-filled world “is a dirty, bloody, scary, and in some ways very human world.”
  • Castiel has a lot of adjusting to do. “Not only does he have to face things like hunger pains and hormones, but also questions like, ‘What is my purpose if I’m a human, not an angel now?’ And he wrestles with that quite sincerely,” said actor Misha Collins.
  • And Castiel isn’t the only one with adjustments to make. Mark Sheppard teased that his once reliably-evil Crowley might not be so cut and dry any longer. “Whatever happened to Crowley at the end of Season 8 has had a profound effect on him, whether he likes it or not. And hopefully we’ll go on a little journey to find out what kind of effect.”
  • Someone’s not being totally truthful, and it could have a huge impact on the show. “[The brothers are] going to have to rely on each other more than ever, which is going to be difficult because there’s a secret that Dean is harboring right now from Sam,” Jensen Ackles revealed of a major season conflict. Co-star Jared Padalecki also hinted at the drama, saying “It really heavily involves Sam. It even has a lot to do with why Sam’s still alive.”
  • Lastly, it was revealed that a potential Supernaturalspinoff is in the early stages of development, and will be airing its pilot as an episode of the long running series in the spring and will feature several new characters. It was recently revealed that the setting for the new series will be set in the city of Chicago.

In other good news, The CW has moved the premiere date for Supernatural up a week to Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 9 p.m. That’s one less week of “hellatus” for all the fans who are dying to see how all these teasers play into the upcoming Season 9.
