If you’re a fan of The Fault in Our Stars, you probably know that John Green is a bit of an Internet celebrity. If you follow John Green throughout the Internet, you may have an idea of just how excited he is about this movie. Just in case you don’t follow him or don’t have the time, I’m going to attempt to do a roundup here of all of the great updates that he’s sharing on Tumblr, YouTube and Instagram, almost all of which can be found on his Twitter stream.
John has been on the TFiOS set a couple of times and Vlogbrothers followers were treated to videos both times so far! He’s really big on not spoiling anything at all about the movie, which he addresses in the first video because of some odd angles.
The second video is some delightful John style rambling about the things around him on set. If you don’t want to see the first part that doesn’t have anything to do with the movie, you can click here to watch it from when he gets to Pittsburg.
John just jointed Instagram this summer and he’s gotten much more active while on set. He shares all of the TFiOS posts on his Tumblr as well, and here are some of my favorites!
John is obviously stoked that most of the support group extras are teen cancer survivors. I think that’s a pretty awesome thing too, especially when it’s a group like this, who look so genuinely happy to be a part of this!
When I saw this, I just loved the combination of adorable and “why are you taking a picture of me” snark that I see in this girl’s face. Her name is Lily and she’s playing young Hazel. She shaved her head for the role, which made John cry, as most things about this movie are doing. John’s caption on the picture says that she is hoping to donate her hair like Shailene Woodley did.
There are plenty of silly pictures from set, I can’t explain why this one is my favorite (we can’t even see Ansel’s pretty face in it) but it is.
John has mentioned that he and his adorable 3-year-old son will be making a cameo in the movie. I don’t know why many people are doubting this, but with a picture like this, I think they’re starting to believe him!
If you’d like to see what else John is uploading, he’s on Instagram as johngreenwritesbooks.
On Tumblr, John likes to share some stories and observations about being on set as well as seeing something that for so long existed only in his imagination come to life. On Twitter, you can see him post about how often he cries and when Laura Dern makes him a sandwich.
The message that you get from every social media outlet that John shares these updates on is how excited he is for the movie. He’s an emotional crier, so there seem to be a lot of tears on set, and he usually tweets about them.
We all know that the movie can never fully live up to what we experience when reading a book, but with the excitement that John is showing, I think we can be confident that The Fault in Our Stars will be true to what John wrote, even if not exactly what we read.
What are your favorite things that John has shared? Is his sharing getting you more excited for the movie or are you staying away to experience the movie as a whole when it comes out?
