Rihanna’s bringing her edgy fashion sense to reality TV with ‘Styled to Rock’

Rihanna is at it again! She is planning on expanding her empire from simply dominating the music charts and launching a successful line of signature fragrances and has now set her sights on dominating primetime television as the executive producer of a new series set to premiere on Bravo called Styled to Rock.  The fashion-based reality show features 12 up-and-coming designers, hand picked by Rihanna, as they compete for the chance to dress some of Hollywood’s finest.

The contestants have the privilege of being mentored by supermodel Erin Wasson, Rihanna’s stylist Mel Ottenberg and Grammy winning producer Pharrell Williams. What’s in store for the contestants each week? Well, imagine Project Runway but with more of a rock n’ roll edge; the contestants will battle it out in the sewing room each week creating designs in the image of that week’s celebrity guest. Rihanna has enlisted the help of her celebrity friends to be guest judges for the challenges, including the likes of Miley Cyrus, Kelly Osbourne, Kid Cudi, Big Sean, Naya Rivera, Carly Ray Jepsen, Khloe Kardashian, Ne-Yo and Kylie Minogue. In addition to the having the opportunity to design for Hollywood’s finest, they also have quite a bit of incentive to make it to the finish line: one winner will receive $100,000 cash, a fashion feature in Glamour magazine and the chance to become a member of Rihanna’s personal design team!

Although Rihanna is a bona fide pop star and is no stranger to success, the U.K. version of this show, which debuted last year, had a bit of a rough start, failing to capture the audience numbers they had hoped for. However, even this could not stop the “Diamonds” singer. Salaam Coleman Smith, the President of Style Network said in a statement, “Rihanna is a trailblazer, a trendsetter and the epitome of style. She has a powerful and unique point-of-view that transcends every aspect of pop culture, including fashion, and is a leading creative force…On the heels of our successful network rebrand, ‘Styled to Rock’ and Style’s new partnership with Rihanna will reinvent the fashion competition genre, fueling our viewers insatiable appetite for all things style.”

Hopefully Rihanna’s U.S. fans will agree and tune in when the show debuts on Bravo October 25!
