Shockingly, we’ve already made it to another year. While some of us may have been counting down since last January for this time to roll around, it still is a little unbelievable how quickly the new year has arrived. Nevertheless, the time has come. There’s no telling what the new year may bring – heartbreak, fortune, success – New Year’s Eve in some ways, can be the deciding factor of this fate. Starting off the year laying on your couch eating Chinese food might seem like a nice evening, but it isn’t setting the bar too high for the rest of the year. So in attempt to plunge yourself into a year greatness, it’s necessary to come up with fun ways to ring in the New Year. Here are a couple of new and not-so new suggestions.
Night Life Scene
We’ve seen all the movies, where a group of people celebrate the new year at a packed bar or club with some friends and a bunch of strangers. As the clock strikes midnight, everyone searches for their lover or friends and shares a New Year’s kiss. Don’t worry a lover or friend isn’t necessary, but it may be a good idea to get out of the house and join in on the nightlife festivities. There are plenty of clubs, bars and restaurants that will be open during this time. Don’t limit the night to dance clubs, comedy clubs and bowling alleys count too. Instead of lounging around in pajamas, getting dressed up for a change and heading out with a group of many or just two or three for a night out on the town may be more fun than you expected. After you hit one bar or club, be open to the possibility of adventure; there’s no telling where you may end up. Plus, it’ll make a great story about what random and mischievous activities that took place.
Throw Your Own Get Together
If you don’t feel like going out, that is understandable. Sometimes it’s just more comfortable staying in the house; but that doesn’t mean you have to stay in alone. Considering that you have a place of your own, or the potential of getting a place with neighbors who don’t complain, throw your own party, gathering or whatever you want to call it. Instead of surrounding yourself at a bar with a bunch of people you don’t know, you can now only invite the people that you want to spend the New Year with. You can have a themed party too. This doesn’t have to be a traditional house party; have fun with it. Make a competition out of cooking dinner, break dance around the house, who cares! Just a little warning though, expect a major clean up and unexpected chaos the next morning from your party guests.
Travel Somewhere Else
For those that don’t mind going out and are even seeking a little adventure, take your New Year’s plans on the road and go somewhere else. If you have friends from different cities, it may be the perfect time to hop in a car or on the train and go visit them for the weekend. Being in a new place opens doors to new possibilities. While actually being in another city, with a different crowd of people should be fun in itself, the drive up with a friend or two may be even greater. The road to Las Vegas makes for a great New Year’s memory. Don’t stop there though; some may travel to other cities, but for those who don’t mind paying the extra buck, don’t hesitate to go out of the country. Nothing like escaping the cold to lie under the sun on a hot beach.
Bonfire, Fire Pit, Fireworks
This is considering that wherever you may be, it isn’t insanely cold, but for those who live on the west coast, or some place where it is bearable to stand outside for more than five minutes, gathering around a fire pit may be more fun than expected. You can roast marshmallows, tell goofy stories about “the good ole days” and spark fireworks. It’s an alternative, mellow way to still be around friends, without having to get dressed up and deal with the chaos of a party or formal get together.
For those who really don’t want to go out or run the risk of wrecking the house, a movie marathon is the way to go. Yes, it’s been done before, but spice it up a little. Try creating a timeline of old, black and white movies, to movies that just came out. Pick movies that make you cry, laugh and get scared. Don’t forget to order a lot of food too. If you don’t feel like being alone, you can make an event of it. Invite over a date, family or friends. This is a relaxing way to bring in the New Year. Remember to keep an eye on the clock though.
Whether you’re here or there, surrounded by a lot of people or just with a loved one, just make sure you’re having fun. They’ll be plenty of time for making New Year’s resolutions and to-do lists. The point now, is to just enjoy the moment and bring the New Year with a bang.
