With the highly anticipated March 21 premiere of Divergent less than a week away, Shailene Woodley and Theo James are everywhere. And rightly so, since they make up the dynamic duo of Tris Prior and Tobias “Four” Eaton, the main characters and heart of the dystopian, action-based love story. But the supporting cast, filled with both newcomers and veterans alike, is nothing less than stellar. Get to know just a few of the faces to watch for below!
Ansel Elgort (Caleb Prior)
Elgort is relatively new to the scene, but is about to make huge waves in Hollywood. Not only does he star
in Divergent as Tris’s brother, who also chooses to leave Abnegation, but in July Elgort will also be starring in another highly anticipated young adult adaption, The Fault in our Stars.
Elgort will portray Augustus Waters opposite, wonder of all wonders, Woodley’s Hazel Lancaster. Whether he’s playing brother or boyfriend to Woodley, Elgort is sure to shine.
Miles Teller (Peter)
Teller first crashed onto the scene in 2011’s Footloose where he portrayed the loveable Willard with two left
feet. Now, he seems to be everywhere from Project X and The Spectacular Now (another Woodley costar)to, most recently, That Awkward Moment opposite Zac Efron and Michael B. Jordon.
It’ll be exciting to watch Teller mold his abilities to fit a character who really does embrace a villainous role within Divergent, especially because he has such a sweet and innocent face.
Zoë Kravitz (Christina)
The daughter of Lenny Kravitz is no stranger to the spotlight, but Zoë holds her own when it comes to
differentiating between her fame and that of her father’s. Her previous acting credits include It’s Kind of a Funny Story and X-Men: First Class and she’s got quite a few more lined up for the future.
But it’s her portrayal of Christina in Divergent where Zoë may really shine the most this year, assuming she really digs down deep into her character’s personality, and her relationship with Will, another Dauntless initiate.
Ben Lloyd-Hughes (Will)
Fans of British entertainment and somewhat silly horror flicks might recognize Lloyd-Hughes from his
roles in Tormented (also starring Alex Pettyfer) and Great Expectations, as well as The Scapegoat. I think many Divergent fans will come to really appreciate his value as an actor after watching his portrayal of Will later this week.
The character’s deep sense of loyalty and kindness will surely win over fans, and by association, win Lloyd-Hughes some points as well.
Christian Madsen (Al)
Another young star with a famous father, Michael Madsen, Christian is ready to take his time in the
spotlight, although to actor does have a few titles under his belt already, including Refugee of a Storm with his father. Madsen has that tough, strong look about him, which is perfect for playing Al, but will he be able to pull off all of the twists and turn the character goes through in Divergent? Only time will tell, but I have a feeling fans won’t have much to worry about.
This list is far from being complete, and many of the other actors like Maggie Q, Jai Courtney, Ashley Judd and Mekhi Phifer will play important roles in the Divergent universe. But sadly, this list could not go on forever. So go see Divergent in theaters March 21, pay attention to the supporting cast and then report back here to let us know just who impressed you the most!
