Ladies, I want you to think about that one boy that has always had a certain kind of quirky allure. The boy next door, the one you grew up with, the one that marches to the beat of his own drum and seems to awkwardly stumble into your heart. I’m talking about the real life Seth Cohens of the world. But, since the end of Adam Brody’s reign on The O.C., there hasn’t seemed to be another man in the spotlight with this particular kind of charm. Until now, that is.
As if the universe heard our cry for another quirky leading man to step into our primetime lives, Dylan O’Brien was sent to us in the form of Stiles Stilinski. Stiles is a very quirky character himself, however, it’s not just Stiles we love. Since the debut of Teen Wolf in 2011, Dylan O’Brien has been all the buzz. But what is it exactly that has turned him into such a heartthrob, even beyond the Teen Wolf fanbase?
Dylan O’Brien is the kind of guy that makes you feel like he’s your best friend, even though you don’t really know him. Why, you may ask? Because he behaves and speaks in front of a camera or with an interviewer exactly the way he would with a friend. He’s not afraid to fan girl over a celebrity crush. He has yet to take down his YouTube channel from before he was famous. He’s always joking around with his friends, being open and honest in interviews and showcasing his personality at all times. He captured hearts not just through his character, but through how relatable he is. He doesn’t take himself too seriously.
To better show you what I mean, check out this video of some of his best interview moments and try not to instantly fall in love. If that doesn’t do you in, take a moment to creep through his Twitter. The man doesn’t hold anything back. He’s quirky, a little nerdy and entirely proud of it. He proclaimed it in black and white after the NYCC panel in an interview with BuzzFeed, “Oh my god, so many geeky things about me. Generally geeky, I mean I geek out about baseball. My two favorite things are baseball and The X-Factor. I don’t know. I’m a huge Star Wars geek, I’m a huge everything geek.”
Dylan O’Brien is a man that understands quality. He looks for the small, quirky things in everyone he meets and values those above looks and expectation. When asked about what kind of girls he likes in an interview with Seventeen, he said, “I just really like fun, cool, interesting, quirky girls. And sometimes you find that in 6’2 model bodies and sometimes they’re short and brunette. All shapes and sizes – it’s really about the personality.”
He’s the kind of guy girls should be pining after: the one that will stand in front of your house with a rose in his mouth (yes, he actually did that once. She laughed at him. To the girl that laughed at him, I have to say, you blew it) proclaiming his affection.
In addition to his personality, there’s no denying that Dylan O’Brien has some serious acting skills. If you’ve been keeping up to date with the current, crazy, incredibly intense new season of Teen Wolf, you know that. However, he’s branched out passed MTV to showcase that he can do even more. He snagged the leading role of Thomas in the upcoming and highly anticipated book to movie adaptation of The Maze Runner. And we all know what happens to the man who snags a role like that (just ask Robert Pattinson and Josh Hutcherson).
This budding star has a long career ahead of him, and a growing fanbase to match. He has the ability to command your attention, make you laugh and make you cry in the matter of five minutes. That’s a quality I can’t imagine ever not wanting to see on my television screen. Now go watch something with Dylan O’Brien and discover for yourself why he’s a big deal.
