Ladies of America…I think all us law breakers are ready to feast our eyes on the upcoming sequel to Magic Mike aptly entitled XXL. Yep, you read that right – Magic Mike: XXL has a green light and should be hitting theaters next year! The sequel (or possibly prequel) of the much loved male stripper film based on the real-life experiences of star Channing Tatum, is being written this time by both Reid Carolin (writer of the first film) and Tatum. According to various media outlets, the script has not been finalized but they have signed a director.

Steven Soderbergh kept his word about retiring this go round so he will not be returning for the sequel; rather his well-worn assistant director Greg Jacobs will be swinging it with the big boys as director. As for the cast, word on the street is that the entire main cast will be returning including Tatum, Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer, Alex Pettyfer, Alex Rodriguez and hopefully Matthew McConaughey. There is some speculation that the McConaissance may not have a major part due to his Oscar winner status and inevitable industry demand. It will depend on the storyline of the script which was first leaked as a sort of prequel and road movie (which may leave Dallas out) but this has not been confirmed yet. Rumors are also swirling that Zac Efron would like to join the shirtless escapades, but just like with the other details, we’ll have to wait and see.

So far, most details about the sequel have been gleamed from  Tatum’s interview last June with The Hollywood Reporter and Manganiello’s more recent interview with Collider. While Tatum is playing his cards a little closer to his glorious chest, a quick read of Manganiello’s interview makes it clear that he has fully embraced his stripper alter ego and is ready to start shaking it for the camera as soon as this fall. Here’s a question I have for Manganiello and XXL filmmakers: if the sequel is titled XXL does that mean BDR gets a bigger part? As if his part could really get any bigger…
