From the first date to the break up, or the relentless search to nearly giving up—in almost every stage of a relationship we all stop for a bit of advice. But sometimes even our closest friends don’t have the answers we need to confidently dive into the circumstances with which we’re faced. In these moments, I turn to those who always seem to say it better than anyone I could have referenced to begin with: celebrities. For each of these resurfacing relationship struggles, our favorite celebs have already given their best advice:
When looking for the right one…
“Find someone who finds you beautiful with no makeup while wearing sweatpants… You’ll never feel more loved.” – Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato took to Twitter to give a relationship tip to her fans. Take her advice and keep yourself natural. Don’t try too hard to impress him with fancy dresses and tons of make-up; this won’t help you decipher whether or not the person is genuine. If he finds you beautiful without all the facades we tend to subject ourselves to, chance are he’s a keeper.
When going on a first date…
“I think the most important thing for me in a relationship is honesty. In the beginning, sometimes girls don’t show their genuine personality.” – Zac Efron
In an interview with Glamour, Zac Efron explained how important it is for a girl to be herself during a first encounter. Even if you’re trying to catch someone’s eye, keep their interest or impress them, it’s important to stay true to your personality and not just try to morph into what you think the other person wants. Be yourself and you’ll end up with someone for the right reasons.
When you’re losing faith in love…
“Real love still happens sometimes. It’s not just something we make up when you’re nine. I have to believe that. You do, too.” – Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift is the queen of love advice. Even though she’s been through multiple heartbreaks (and wrote a song or a hundred about them), she still believes whole-heartedly in true love. If Taylor hasn’t given up on her love search, neither should you! It exists. Don’t get bitter or pessimistic because you’ve had a few heartbreaks. Those heartbreaks are just making you stronger for the real thing.
When you’re torn between two people…
“If you love two people at the same time, choose the second one, because if you really loved the first one, you wouldn’t have fallen for the second.” – Johnny Depp
This is perhaps the most well known quote of Johnny Depp, and for a good reason. So often these days we encounter the infamous love triangle. If you’re mixed up in one and have a decision to make, cut through all the red tape and put it into simple terms. Let these words guide you.
And if/when it doesn’t work out…
“The best way to mend a broken heart is time and girlfriends.” – Gwyneth Paltrow
If the dreaded time comes that a relationship comes to an end, there’s no real cure for heartache. However, Gwyneth Paltrow assures us that the dream team for putting the pieces back together is time and friends. With a little bit of this combination, everything else will fall right back into place.
The next time you’re at a moment in your relationship that requires some good advice, look no further than to the people that already inspire you. They’ll give you a little direction and, hopefully, enough bravery to face your fears in love head on.
