If you’re a movie fan, you probably now recognize actress Shailene Woodley as Hazel Grace Lancaster via The Fault In Our Stars. If you knew her before the film’s release, you might remember the crazy things she said during the press tour she had for the film. Before that, Woodley was once the star of The Secret Life of the American Teenager on ABC Family, where she played teen-mother, Amy and shined as Tris in this year’s Divergent.
Plus, Woodley has even acted alongside multi-Oscar winning actor George Clooney in 2011’s The Descendants. We can’t forget her Sundance Film Festival special jury prize-winning performance in The Spectacular Nowas Aimee either. Her chemistry with Miles Teller was adorable. If you haven’t seen The Fault in Our Stars yet, let us tell you that her chemistry with Ansel Elgort might even be cuter. Okay, spoiler– it is!
This versatile actress is well on her way to becoming a movie star, if she’s not there already. What you might not know about the face behind these memorable roles, however, is the woman who plays them. Woodley has said some pretty quirky things while on press tour, and we have the quirkiest ones picked out for you, here.
5. “I gather my own spring water from mountains. I go to a farm to get my food.”
She has opened up to the press about her organic diet many times after too, saying that she eats clay, makes her own medicine and collects a monthly spring water supply from mountains. The actress is the ultimate, alternative do-it-yourself girl. She makes her own lotions, toothpaste and face oils too.
There’s no doubt in our heads that this quirky lady is a nature-centric and soul-centric spirit leader.
4. “Everything that I own and use are in a carry-on suitcase.”
Woodley is extremely low-maintenance, which might not be your “typical” idea of a Hollywood leading lady. Yet, she is so nonconformist that she has admitted that she is homeless.
In May, she told Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live that all of the things she owned could fit into one carry-on suitcase. Apparently, she sleeps on friend’s couches to catch up on her Zs. Totally zen! The actress also told the talk show host she feels less stressed that she literally has less weight on her back by having less material things.
Woodley says it makes it way easier to see her friends when she has off time, during filming schedules to only have one bag to lug around.
3. “I had boobs about three times the size they are in real life. My stomach was completely flat. My skin was also flawless. But the reality is that I do not have those lips and my skin is not flawless and I do have a little bit of a stomach.”
Woodley was talking about her body and photoshop to Interview Magazine in July 2013, after concluding her role as Amy in The Secret Life of the American Teenager. The series wrapped on June 3, 2013. The actress discussed a lot about life in the interview with fellow actress, Emma Stone, who was in New York and connected via phone to talk to Woodley.
The two discussed her role in the public eye, her films and acting, her passion for personal health and Earthly conservation, her organic lifestyle, body conscientiousness and, of course, Hollywood’s “body image.”
*BEWARE! There is a SPOILER ALERT for The Fault in Our Stars fans, below.
2. “He comes back as a ghost and says, ‘I’m in love with Isaac, Sorry Hazel’… It’s really progressive. Very new age. Very liberal. It’s actually a campaign for gay rights.”
What’s the actress talking about in this quirky quote? When joking to the press about a rumored The Fault in Our Starssequel, the actress speculated a possibility about Gus’ return to the “series.” For fans, the joke might have been enough to make a few hearts stop, but Woodley was calm and confident when she teased this to Youtuber, polandbananasBOOKS, after being asked the question about a possibility of a sequel.
1. “I only shampoo it like once a month- the oilier, the better.”
It was certainly hard to peg down what Woodley’s quirkiest quote was, but the reason we went with this quote, from an interview with IntoTheGloss.com, was because we couldn’t believe this girl’s hair is so beautiful, yet she only shampoos it once a month. It’s a little bit of a double-take statement and seems kind of bizarre, right? The “status quo” of shampooing is typically every time or every two days, right?
We’re still not quite sure, but her studies with herbalism and environmentalism have us reassured that she’s taking care of herself and that luscious mane. If we ever need a natural tip, we’re definitely going to Woodley!
Her mantras on herbalism and doing good for the planet are inspiring, and perhaps her celebrity will encourage others to see similar “natural light.”
To that we say, keep being your quirky self Shailene, The Daily Quirk loves you!
