Ways to Strengthen Your Friendship or Relationship

Ways to Strengthen Your Friendship or Relationship

Friends aren’t always friends forever, and sometimes love fades. So if you have a best friend who’s the very best or a significant other that is extra significant, don’t let them go! Here are a few ways to make your friendships and relationships as strong as they can be.

Think of them.

It’s important to be a confident and independent individual, but if you want to have a successful relationship of any kind, you have to think of the other person. Get them that shirt they saw at the store and loved. Make them a chocolate cake when they’re having the worst day ever. Let them choose where you’re going for dinner. Put them first whenever you can.

Talk to them.

If you have a problem, they should be the person you go to with it. And if you have big news, they should still be the person you go to with it. Keep them involved in your life, and they’ll keep you involved in theirs.

 Listen to them.

Don’t make the conversation all about you, though. Hear them out when they’ve got something to say. If they need a shoulder to cry on, lean on in and lend them yours.  If they want to ramble on and on about the less-than-exciting day they had, sit back and let them talk. You’d want them to do the same.

Don’t take them for granted.

All that thinking and talking and listening can get to be a lot of work. But if the friendship or relationship is important, it’s worth it. And if you’re not there for the other person, they might not always be there for you. So don’t take them for granted. Do your part to keep them around.

Keep it interesting.

Relationships can get stagnant. You do the same old things day after day. And that can be hard, especially when you’re putting all this work into the friendship. So don’t forget to mix it up: try new things, have adventures, make memories. Don’t let your scrapbook be filled up with pictures of the two of you sitting on the couch watching TV. You guys can do better than that.

It takes two to make any relationship a good one. So if you have someone worth keeping around, you’ve got to do what you can to make the friendship strong. So go give your BFF, your BF, or whoever else is in your life a high five and tell them you appreciate them. Then do something awesome together.
