The San Diego Comic-Con schedule of events may be jam-packed, but there will always be the wiggle room to squeeze in a few last minute surprise speakers. One of the biggest surprises to come out of this year’s convention was the appearance of Christopher Nolan and Matthew McConaughey, the director and head actor of the highly anticipated film, Interstellar. The two debuted a new trailer, much to everyone’s delight, and provided some new insight into the rather mysterious science fiction film.
So far what we know about the film is that it revolves around the story of a group of space travelers who defy the limits of human space travel and journey through a recently discovered wormhole. In addition to McConaughey, the film also stars Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, Ellen Burstyn and Michael Caine. Nolan is keeping the biggest details of the film hush-hush, but allowed McConaughey to gently reveal a few new tidbits about the character he plays.
The most special moment of the panel came when Nolan recalled the wonderful times he had spent in a movie theater with his father when he was younger, noting that the nostalgia it brought him was the driving force behind his hopes for his latest film. Bringing up the Star Wars series Nolan told audiences he wants to “tell a similarly ambitious story…I want kids today to be able to go with their parents and sit and watch this story unfold on an enormous screen and really feel engaged, that’s my ambition for this film.” With amazing films such as The Prestige, The Dark Knight trilogy and Inception already under his belt, it’s safe to say Interstellar will do just that.
Look for Interstellar in theaters November 7, and keep checking back with The Daily Quirk for all the latest on the year’s San Diego Comic-Con!
