Remember that movie Just My Luck from 2006? Remember it starred the adorable, Chris Pine and not yet crazy, Lindsay Lohan? Well one thing I bet you don’t remember from that movie is the incredibly brilliant band featured in the movie, McFly. They had a very small part in the film, portraying the band Pine’s character was trying to get signed. What most people didn’t know was that the band was already a huge sensation in the UK even though they were not so famous yet in America.
McFly is freaking awesome! That’s the only way I can put it. When I was in sixth grade I discovered them and their punky-pop music and instantly fell in love. 10 years later I still adore them and love every song they put out. I recently saw them in Brighton on their McBusted tour and I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t in the top five moments of my life. I would also be lying if I said meeting Tom Fletcher, the lead singer and all around love of my life since I was 9 years old wasn’t in my top five moments too.
For those who don’t know McFly I’m sure you’ve heard of Tom Fletcher. Aside from being the most adorable and perfect guy on the planet he writes songs for One Direction as well as went viral with his musical wedding speech. Aside from his Internet fame he is an extremely talented musician. He can play multiple instruments and writes most of McFly’s hit songs. Aside from Tom, the band consists of three other members, Harry Judd on drums, Danny Jones who sings as well as plays guitar for the group and Dougie Poynter who plays bass.
Their first album Room on the Third Floor debuted at number one on the UK albums chart and broke the world record for the youngest band with a number one album, the honor previously held by the Beatles. They have also sold out dozens of nights at the famed O2 arena as well as The Royal Albert Hall.
Although they aren’t a household name in the U.S., McFly have generated a huge fan base across the bond, and for good reason. There are not many bands or musicians in general that I feel this passionate towards. Their music is so uplifting and so wonderful. My personal favorites are “All About You,” “Sorry’s Not Good Enough,” “Little Joanna” and “The Guy That Turned Her Down.”
“All About You” is probably one of the sweetest and most romantic songs I have ever heard. It never fails to put a smile on my face and the fact that it was inspired by Tom’s wife makes it that much cuter.
If you like Blink 182, Busted or The Beatles, I think McFly is a band you should definitely check out. Not only are they all gorgeous, they are extremely talented, hilarious and humble guys.
