Matt Ryan, star of the new NBC drama Constantine, sat down with The Daily Quirk at a New York Comic-Con roundtable to give us the scoop on his new show! Ryan plays John Constantine from the beloved DC comic book series Hellblazer. Though his soul is already damned to hell, Constantine fights the forces of evil to protect the innocent.
This is the first time Ryan is the leading man in a TV series, but the Wales-born actor said the role is incredibly fun and liberating. He added though there are other version of John Constantine, what makes his version different is that he’s bringing himself to the role. “In theater, how many people have played Hamlet?” Ryan said. “What’s different about your Hamlet? It’s you.”
Watch the video below to find out more about why Ryan loves the character of Constantine, why he’s constantly reading the comic books, how the show will handle the smoking issue and why Ryan wants to go to magic school.
Constantine will premiere Friday, Oct. 24 at 10 p.m. on NBC.
