Another year, another American Music Awards. The 42nd AMAs took place and while it is a show about awards, you know a lot of people tuned in for the epic performances. This year was no different. The show was jam-packed with performances from Charli XCX to Garth Brooks. While there were so many to watch, there were only a few that stood out to me throughout the whole night. Without further ado and in no particular order, here are five performances that I kind of can’t stop talking about:

Selena Gomez

It was her first time ever performing “The Heart Wants What It Wants” to a full on audience and although there were some odd images going on behind her, her performance was beautiful. If you haven’t seen the video or even heard of the song, it’s clear that this it’s about a difficult relationship she’s been dealing with. (Spoiler alert: Justin Bieber) It was the realest I’ve seen her for a while. She didn’t need any crazy getups to get my attention.

Lorde

Promoting her track “Yellow Flicker Beat” that’s featured on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One soundtrack, Lorde killed this performance. I’ve seen her live and I’m telling you, what you see is what you get. She’s flawless. She does have weird dance moves and all but that shouldn’t keep you from the fact she knows what she’s doing and she’s killing it out there in the music industry.

Sam Smith featuring A$AP Rocky

Performing his single “I’m Not The Only One,” Sam Smith got help from A$AP Rocky and it turned out to be a really good remix. If only this collaboration was featured on his album…

Fergie

Okay, there was just so many things to pay attention to during this whole performance. First off, I’m not sure if I was the only one to make this comparison but YG came out on stage with a tricycle and he looked just like Billy the Puppet from the Saw franchise. You know what I’m talking about. It’s Jigsaw’s creepy doll that rides around on a tricycle too! Secondly, Fergie had an awkward wardrobe malfunction near the end of the set. Poor Fergie Ferg. Don’t worry. You handled it like a champ.

Taylor Swift

Opening the award show with her latest number one single “Blank Space,” Taylor Swift put on one heck of a performance. Sticking to the theme of being a crazed girlfriend, she continued to poke fun at herself with a number of men and managed to show off her crazy side while still looking fierce. No, but really Taylor. Is there something you can’t do?

Honorable mention:

Jennifer Lopez and Iggy Azalea

Pretty sure JLo does not age. It’s now my goal in life to look half as good as she does when I reach her age.

Like I said, there were tons of performances and although I can’t talk about every one of them, these are the ones that stuck out to me. What did you like or didn’t you like about the AMAs? Let us know below!
