Exfoliating has been quite a buzzword in beauty the past few years. We all know exfoliating your skin once or twice a week leads to softer, smoother, more radiant skin. Most of us have invested in exfoliating face and body wash and possibly even picked up a Clarisonic. But many women are forgetting about exfoliating one import body part- the lips!

Your lips are just like your face and body; the dead skin builds up and needs some help getting scrubbed off to reveal the fresh, new skin below. Exfoliating your lips is even more important during the winter months, when wind, cold and dry weather can really destroy your lips.

Once or twice a week, use an exfoliating lip scrub to gently remove skin build-up and polish your smackers. Take a bit on your finger and scrub onto lips in circular motions. Rinse off and follow with a moisturizing balm to keep lips looking lovely. If you don’t like using your finger, you can use a soft bristled toothbrush instead.

Adding a lip exfoliate to your weekly beauty routine will help lips stay soft, help deter cracking and create a smoother canvas for lipstick and lip-gloss. Now that you know to exfoliate your lips, check out our top picks below to add to your next product haul.

The Bliss Fabulips Sugar Lip Scrub

This lip scrub in a small tub is full of natural oils, vitamins and butters that help lips look revitalized. A mix of sugar, almond and walnut shells help scrub off the dead, dull skin while shea and cocoa butters help moisturize lips. Laura Gellar Lip Strip Smoothing Sugar Scrub

This lip scrub is a perfect accompaniment for the holidays because it uses peppermint oil to give a cooling effect on contact along with a refreshing scent. Those who have sensitive skin will love this scrub because of the super fine sugar mixed with soothing essential oils.

E.L.F Lip Exfoliator

For those who don’t like using their fingers to exfoliate, there is the E.L.F Lip Exfoliator. It comes in a tube and is shaped just like a lipstick, allowing you to simply swipe on and wash off. The sugar-based scrub has a sweet, delicious scent and uses brown sugar instead of white. Vitamins and minerals help condition lips to help them stay moisturized and healthy.

Your lips will love you once you start exfoliating them once or twice a week. Help your lipstick go on smoother, keep cracks at bay and protect your lips from the harsh winter elements with any of the scrubs above. Now that your lips are super smooth, maybe you should go find the mistletoe.
