The Eye Candy
Everyone needs a little eye candy, but this show has taken the standard level of television swoon and given them steroids. Ian Harding, Tyler Blackburn, Keegan Allen, Cody Christian, Brant Daugherty, Ryan Merriman… that list goes on. If you’re really dead set on not watching the show anymore, at least put it on mute and just melt in the face of beauty that is those men.
Don’t lie to yourself, you love this. You have your theories, and you have created crazy back-stories for the Liars and their beau’s that you think make them innocent (or guilty). I’m not immune to this. From the moment I started watching the show I had my sights set on Jenna Marshall. Swore she was A – she wasn’t. However, that sketchy lady is on my radar. I won’t give up on thinking she actually is A. And don’t try to convince me otherwise. I’m pretty set in my theory.
Why do we love reality TV? The drama. Sure, PLL isn’t exactly reality TV (thank goodness) but it’s filled to the brim with drama, lies, deceit and steamy romances. It’s everything that makes a great show. Plus if we refer back to points one and two, it really is perfect. And the drama really helps you put your life into perspective: “Man, my high school years weren’t nearly as bad as this. Never once was I almost murdered by a dangerous sociopath with a long history of violence.” That’s why we watch television, everyone. To escape reality and remember that regardless of how bad life is, at least we aren’t being stalked by a murderer with a vendetta for high school girls.
And this is the real reason why you keep coming back. It’s why I can’t quit this show, and it’s why the entire PLL fandom can’t quit this show. After investing five seasons worth of time into this, I’ve put out all my theories, and cried, laughed and screamed with these characters and I just can’t give up. Not until I know who A is. It’s the “be all, end all” of this show. A is this show – the producers know it, we know it – and until we know who it is it looks like we’ll keep coming back.
So alas, PLL fans, we anxiously wait for the answers we know we’ll never get. We tune in at 8 p.m. on Tuesday nights, somehow hopeful that the producers will just give us something, anything, to help us quench the thirst we have for answers. And until we get them, it looks like we’re all down for this crazy, unexpected ride.
