Simple (and healthy) ways to boost your energy levels!

Energy, is something that we all wish we had more of. Some days it can be ridiculously hard to pull yourself out of bed, others you start flagging in the afternoon. Often you find yourself reaching for a third cup of coffee for the day just to keep going. We all know those annoyingly energetic people, the sort that have an endless bounce to their step and always seem to get everything done and are still raring to go at the end of the day. I can’t give you the secret to these people’s gusto in life, but there are ways to boost your own energy levels. Just a follow a few small tips to hopefully improve your ability to make it through the day and make life a little bit easier!

The first tip is by far the most obvious: eat breakfast in the morning. Everyone knows it and yet so many people don’t do it. It’s probably best to eat breakfast in the first couple of hours after waking to reboot your metabolism after a night’s sleep and to give you some energy to start your day. It really does make a difference.

If you have the time in the morning, than exercise can be a great way of increasing your energy. We all feel a little fatigued immediately after working out but it actually raises your energy levels and if you exercise regularly you’re likely to see a real enhancement to your focus on a day-to-day basis.

Pumping up your iPod is a small action, but if you play uplifting music it can definitely get your brain stimulated and lift your mood. Improve your mood = improve your energy levels.

Take time out. I’m not talking days off, but just a 15 minute break here and there when you start to feel like your flagging. Do some breathing exercises, clear your head from work, stretch. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in what we’re doing that we start to tense up and our bodies tire more quickly, taking a few minutes to loosen up and relax can really make a difference.

Stay organised, don’t let things start to pile up. Mentally, just the thought of a huge list of tasks left to complete can be really draining. Get things together and have an assigned time period for everything you need to get done, that way it won’t play on your mind and create negative thoughts, which in turn make you feel more tired.

My last piece of advice is almost as obvious as the first and yet, again, so many people don’t do it. Have a regular sleeping pattern. Figure out how much sleep you need to function at your best and then aim to get the right number of hours every night. In addition, it helps to go to bed and wake up at roughly the same time every day. This will help regulate your energy levels and help you to stay more awake during the day.

It’s never easy to keep going through a long day but if you try to create good habits and do little things to boost your energy then you will see improvements. And we all get down days so if you do spend the day feeling just plain exhausted, don’t feel too bad. Just get a good night’s sleep and wake up ready to go!
