Alright, you’re tired of it. You are way past puberty, you wash your face regularly and you even splurged on that overly expensive miracle acne face wash! So what gives?! Unfortunately no matter how many precautions you may think you’re taking, you may still be missing some everyday habits that are causing your vicious breakouts. Here are 5 of the most common reasons you’re still breaking out:
Your makeup brushes
Can’t remember the last time you washed your brushes, or don’t remember a time when you even thought to wash your brushes? Well maybe it’s time to ditch your old ones and get a new set, especially if your brushes are over 5 years old. Imagine how much oil, bacteria and grime build up on brushes! It’s no wonder why you’re breaking out! Wash your brushes with this awesome DIY Brush Cleaner and let them air dry on a paper towel at least one a month.
Your pillow case
When you sleep, you leave behind more than your dreams on your pillow case. Dirt, oil, and remnants of skin and hair products all puddle up on your pillow. Time to wash your pillow cases more frequently! You should wash them up to once a week if you have oily skin or frequent night sweats.
You consume too much dairy
You are what you eat, so take notice of what you’re putting down your gullet. Dairy can cause significant acne because its ingredients stimulate oil glands. So put the cheese block and crackers away and opt for an apple instead. Caffeine is also a catalyst for acne AND if you’re putting extra creamer in your coffee you might want to take it down a notch.
If you are a chatty Cathy it might be time to invest in some alcohol wipes for your phone. Your phone can hold thousands of bacteria on the surface and transfer them to your cheeks and temple region when you talk. We set our phone down on the grimiest of surfaces – bathroom counters, food tables, couches – and then place them up to our face without even thinking….can you say ew? But occasionally wiping it down a few times a day can save your skin and your peace of mind.
You don’t get enough sleep
Stress and not getting enough sleep can wreak havoc on your body. It creates an imbalance of hormones within your body and can be detrimental to your skin. So if you’re becoming a zombie freaking out about a project or staying out too late with the girls, it might be time to take it easy and relax. (Just make sure you clean your pillow case before you lay down for a long snooze. )
Start following these tips and give it some time – soon enough you will be on your way to flawless skin!
