Watching the two hour premiere of Mad Men on Sunday was an experience since the show continually explores humorous, dramatic, and poignant themes in nearly every episode. This episode entitled, The Doorway, was no exception as I found myself laughing out loud one minute then pondering the meaning of death the next. That being said, here are my top 5 moments of the Mad Men premiere. Continue reading

The Walking Dead

Actress Emily Kinney gives us her take on the latest ‘The Walking Dead’ casting developments!

The Walking Dead

Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan), Glenn (Steven Yeun), Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), Andrea (Laurie Holden), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), The Governor (David Morrissey), Carol (Melissa Suzanne McBride), Karen (Melissa Ponzio), Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs), Beth Greene (Emily Kinney), Tyreese (Chad Coleman) Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Hershel Greene (Scott Wilson) – The Walking Dead (Image Credit: Gene Page/AMC)

I’m sure all you Dead-heads out there noticed the shift in casting for our fearless zombie apocalypse survivors when The Walking Dead season three finale ended.  Although all us dead fans were ready for an all-out war between Rickinator and the Governor, the writers of TWD had other things in mind.  They have decided to keep the Governor in play for season four thus upgrading David Morrissey to a cast regular.  Along with Morrissey the finale indicated the addition of Tyreese (Chad Coleman) and Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) to the prison camp cast.  If you recall, those two are part of that group that found their way through the back of the prison then ended up at Woodbury after Rick’s first Lori hallucination. Holy crapola!!!!!!!  The Governor is a sick motha effer!!!  The episode starts with him beating Milton for being human and burning the biters they kept for the war against Rick’s group.  When he asks about Andrea, Gov puts him in the torture room with her and commands he kill her.  When he tries to kill the Governor instead, one-eyed Philly stabs him and locks him in the room.  He says (this isn’t verbatim – I’m not that good at transcription), “You’ll kill her one way or another, when you turn you’ll rip the flesh from her bones.”  Dayam!

Laurie Holden as Andrea in THE WALKING DEAD

The Walking Dead: Episode 314 ‘Prey’ Recap

Laurie Holden as Andrea in THE WALKING DEAD

The episode starts with a little background on Michonne, those pets of hers were apparently malevolent acquaintances.  In her words, “they weren’t human to begin with.”  However, this episode ends up all about Andrea.

Various medical tools are being gathered for Michonne’s hand over including a speculum…[shudder].  Torture of the worst kind is what the Governor has in mind and that guy is one sick f@#$.  Andrea finally starts to wake up to his insanity ( I think the speculum must have done the trick) a little too late but manages to get out of Woodbury before crap hits the fan.  Does the Governor let her go?  Of course not, he goes chasing after her leading her deeper into the Georgia countryside and off course. Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes in THE WALKING DEAD

The Walking Dead: Episode 313 ‘Arrow on the Doorpost’ Recap

The Governor and the Rickinator meet eye to eyes in the latest episode of the nation’s favorite zombie show.  Basically they sit at a table and talk politics…boring but necessary.  Outside the meeting place things develop in a much more interesting fashion.  Darryl, Andrea, Hershel, Milton and Caesar all become familiar with each other which will inevitably make it more poignant when the war begins.  Daryl and Caesar have a pissing contest, “who can kill zombies more ruthlessly?”  This ends with a bonding session over found cigarettes.  Hershel and Milton find common ground regarding the written history of this apocalyptic time period.  Funniest moment was Milton asking Hershel about his amputated leg, he asks if he can see it and Hershel declines telling Milton he should buy him a drink first.  Oh Hershel, you’re so silly.

Back at the prison, Merle is an ignorant bully as usual trying to convince the others that they need to storm the meeting between Rick and the Governor and take the enemy out.  Glenn, the one left in charge, denies Merle his request and it comes to blows to stop him.  Merle does everything in the name of his brother but when it comes down to it, he really does it for himself.

I knew it!  Last episode they developed Michonne’s character so much that I figured her mortality was going to come into play soon.  Sure enough, the Governor wants her in exchange for peace between the settlements.  Even when Merle tries to seduce her into a revenge killing she doesn’t budge, she sticks with the group and proves her newfound devotion thus the moral quandary.  Of course, the Governor doesn’t intend to keep his end of the deal; he’s a sick mutha.  Thank God, Rick doesn’t buy his BS instead he prepares his people for war.  Oh wait, I wrote too soon…

Lucky episode 13 was only lucky for two characters: Glenn and Maggie.  Boom chicka wow wow!  Watch next week for the beginning of war and check back here for a recap and more commentary.

This episode centers around Rick, Carl, and Michonne on a supply run, almost immediately they come across a lone man walking along the road crying out for help.  Bringing us back in time to the series’ beginning when Rick was fresh from the hospital bed walking down abandoned streets trying to make it home.  Our callused crew does not help the man, just drives by intent on completing their mission, which does not include adding a member to their group. Eeeeewwwww!!  I swear that is the ugliest eyeball injury I’ve seen on film since Un Chien Andalou – yuck.  The war between the Rickinator and the Governor continues as Woodbury raises arms and the prison folks decide their next move. The outsiders Rick drove out of the prison are now in Woodbury ready to fight…what a tangled web.  They saw Rick lose it when he saw Lori’s ghost and they are sure he’s whacked out and dangerous – can’t blame ‘em. The Walking Dead: Episode 310 ‘Home’ Recap

Steven Yeun as Glenn in THE WALKING DEAD

All fight and no play makes the Rickinator go crazy!  Our poor Georgian hero has gone off the deep end after seeing Lori watch over him and his group at the end of the last episode.  His delusions continue throughout the grounds of the prison as he chases her ghost in hopes of figuring out why she’s haunting him.  Apparently, it made the newcomers rush off because we did not see not hide nor hair of them in this week’s episode. Don’t forget that the end of season three, part one ended with our fearless group coming down hard on “The Governor” and the town of Woodbury to save Glenn and Maggie.  It all ends with ultimate death match: Darryl vs. Meryl – who wins?  Neither because the Calvary comes back to save the day – boosh – hang ‘em high Rick! The Walking Dead: ‘Made to Suffer’ Season 3 Episode 8

The Walking Dead mid-season finale was awesome! There are some new people in the woods behind the prison leading walkers into the blown out backside of the compound.  Don’t forget there is a limited amount of the group left there as Rick, Darryl, Michonne, and Oscar go for blood in Woodbury.  The Governor is attempting to keep Andrea in the sex haze so she doesn’t catch on that people from her old group are alive and being held captive by Merle and Philip (The Governor).  Luckily, Maggie and Glenn are not pansies and are willing to fight back before being slaughtered by the brainwashed Woodbury militia.  This catches the attention of our recovery team and they begin opening fire in order to recover their people.  The only person caught in the crossfire is our one expendable character, Oscar, as the group makes its way over the Woodbury wall. The Walking Dead: ‘When the Dead Come Knocking’ Episode 307

Carol is alive!  Rick and everyone else greets her back into the group with hugs and happiness until she sees the baby and realizes what became of Lori.  It definitely pulls at the heartstrings as she mourns her friend.  Outside, Michonne almost didn’t make it as the walkers finally realized she was alive, her bleeding gunshot wound gave her away just before she passed out from pain.  Luckily, Carl and Rick decided she was worth saving and pulled her into the prison.  Continue reading
