In Jeffrey Brown’s adaptation of Patricia McCormick’s novel Sold,  twelve-year-old Lakshmi (Niyar Saikia) leaves her village to work as domestic servant in India, only to find out she’s been sold into prostitution. She then must summon all her strength to survive her ordeal and find a way out of her horrible fate. Co-starring Gillian Anderson, David Arquette and Tillotama Shome, this haunting tale sheds light on the very real issue of human trafficking and slavery happening every day in countries all over the globe, including The United States.

The Daily Quirk got the chance to sit down with Screenwriter and Director Jeffrey Brown to talk how he hopes Sold will raise greater awareness of the atrocity that is human trafficking and slavery,  and his experience having the film show at the Cinequest Film Festival.
