It’s not hard for me to find Kickstarter campaigns that I’d like to support. There are so many ridiculous, creative and kind-hearted people out there who aren’t afraid to take their ideas and run with them. But today I saw a campaign that really struck a chord with me – LeVar Burton is trying to raise money to bring Reading Rainbow to a computer near you. Continue reading

What if your shipping of a fandom lead you to creating your own?
That is exactly what Big Bang Press is going to do using funding raised from a Kickstarter Campaign to publish three original books written completely by fanfiction authors. Their slogan? “Original fiction for an original audience.” With the start of their Kickstarter campaign in November, Big Bang Press had raised just under $13,000 of their $40,000 goal before the writers had even finished. If you’re a Veronica Mars fan, or just generally familiar with the show, then you’ve likely already heard about the Veronica Mars Movie Project that went live on Kickstarter March 12 and was fully funded in only 11 hours. The project actually shattered several Kickstarter records, proving what a dedicated fan base the show had.
Just 8 months ago, the Veronica Mars movie made headlines by breaking all kinds of records for Kickstarter fundraising. Only 8 months, and we already have footage coming out for a movie. A movie that’s based on a TV show that ended 6 years ago. It almost defies logic.
But if that’s not exciting enough, a new featurette released earlier this month combined with the footage from San Diego Comic Con in July gives Marshmellows a lot to look forward to. Continue reading
Harry Potter fans the world over still awaiting their acceptance letters to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, have settled for the next best thing: Quidditch, the popular wizarding sport from the JKRowling series. Quidditch has been readily adopted by the muggle world, keeping the rules and athletics in tact, minus the magic of course. Colleges around the nation, and in fact around the world, have been hopping on the bandwagon starting their own Quidditch teams and even participating in a ‘World Cup’ event.
Mudbloods the movie, directed by Farzad Sangari, documents how Quidditch is played and how the phenomenon has grown thanks to some dedicated fans and athletes. Sound like something you would want to see? Well, you can help to bring it to the big screen. Sangari has taken the documentary to Kickstarter in an attempt to gain funding for post-production and completion of the project.
Recently, we were lucky enough to catch up with one of the film’s stars Tom Marks, captain and founder of the UCLA Quidditch Team, to talk the Mudbloods Kickstarter Campaign, what “real quidditch” is all about, and what fans can expect from the film. Watch the exclusive interview below! Continue reading

There is very little more frustrating to a dedicated fan than a show that gets cancelled too soon. This was the fate of the CW’s Veronica Mars. The show, which featured a witty teenage detective (Kristen Bell) solving mysteries big and small, was forced to end abruptly after two and a half seasons. Fans were left feeling frustrated with the loose ends and lack of closure. Continue reading
