Alright, alright, alright. If you follow me on Twitter, you can see just how much I wish I was part of Taylor Swift’s squad. Seriously. Taylor has created a group that defines #SquadGoals. But, to be honest, I can’t even keep up with who’s actually in the squad or who’s just a special guest. That is why this article needs to happen. Another year, another American Music Awards. The 42nd AMAs took place and while it is a show about awards, you know a lot of people tuned in for the epic performances. This year was no different. The show was jam-packed with performances from Charli XCX to Garth Brooks. While there were so many to watch, there were only a few that stood out to me throughout the whole night. Ella Yelich-O’Connor, or Lorde as most know her, is a 17-year-old New Zealand native who has quickly taken the music world by storm. Made famous by her hit single “Royals,” Lorde’s latest album Pure Heroine is currently among iTune’s Top 10 albums, “Royals” still remains in the Top 10 singles and she just made her Grammy debut Jan. 26 by performing at the Staples Center. Along with singing at the award ceremony, Lorde was nominated four times and went home with two Grammys, one for Song of the Year and one for Best Pop Solo Performance, again for “Royals.”

On Jan. 18, India released her cover of “Say Something,” the popular song by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera that has reached number one on iTunes. She made the track public through her blog, Genres of India, and her Twitter account. To date, the rendition has almost 350,000 plays on SoundCloud, and the count is gaining rapidly. Continue reading

Throughout this year, the scene has been abuzz with one such artist: Lorde. Born Ella Yelich-O’Connor, but going by the one-word moniker, this teenage New Zealander has emerged as one of the most exciting and creative new artists of today. But what is it that makes Lorde so special? Continue reading
