When ABC Family announced that they would be renewing hit TV show Pretty Little Liars for two additional seasons – the network’s first ever multi-season pickup – I think it’s safe to say that we all screamed in delight. And anger. And happiness. And rage. Regardless of the emotional rollercoaster you may or may not have experienced upon the release of this shocking news, it’s important for us to weigh the pros and cons of Pretty Little Liars’ extended lifeline. Lucy Hale. Lea Michele. Now, the return of Hilary Duff!
$10 if you could guess what they all have in common besides starring in hit television shows. Yeah, okay. Nevermind about the $10. I didn’t think it was that hard. They’re now all singers.
It’s not uncommon. Since Disney Channel, we’re used to the triple threat kind of actresses/actors who can magically act, sing and dance.
Isn’t it weird how just about every actress is signing a record deal? Most recently, Hilary Duff announced on Twitter that she signed another record deal. If you’re sitting in front of your screen asking, “What do you mean another record deal?” Let me tell you a bit of history. Way back when, there was a time where our little Hilary dabbled in the music business with Buena Vista and Hollywood Records. The same record label who recorded Jesse McCartney, Vanessa Hudgens and Miley Cyrus. Even though this was So Yesterday, it fills my heart with joy to know that Duff is making a comeback.
However, she’s not the only one. Lea Michele debuted her new album Louder in-stores and online on March 4. Many of us know Michele as the Broadway lover Rachel Berry on Glee so I have to say it was interesting hearing her belt out pop music rather than Broadway hits but either way, she’s killing it!
Lucy Hale, who plays Aria Montgomery on Pretty Little Liars, showed the world her country music background when she debuted her single “You Sound Good to Me” with sneak peeks on her Instagram page. Some of us knew she could sing ever since she belted out her vocals with Freddie Stroma in A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song. Her album is set to drop on June 4 but for now, we can sit tight and re-watch her music video! Not like I’ve been doing that or anything…
We also have the other group of actresses who sing but are still trying to get their name in the spotlight in the music world rather than being seen solely as an actress. There’s Debbie Ryan who starred in Suite Life on Deck and iCarly’s Jennette McCurdy. One really successful switch is non-other than Taylor Momsen who used to star as Jenny Humphrey on Gossip Girl. She’s now the lead singer of The Pretty Reckless and by the looks of it, you would have never suspected her as the goody two-shoes she once was. She no longer taps into the acting industry. Goodbye, Upper Eastside!
As I’m watching television shows now, I can’t help but think, “Okay, which one of these characters has vocals?” It’s inevitable. I always believe if there’s an episode that involves singing, it’s no doubt they’re either already a singer or want to be one. Let’s look at New Girl for example. Zooey Deschanel made a name for herself in the music industry so somehow she was able to incorporate her singing in the storyline for her character Jess (or any character she plays for that matter) to sing alongside Prince during the episode after the Super Bowl this year.
What do you think, are you happy that you’re getting new music or are you tired of the whole actor/actress turned musician?
I first became aware of the Fifty Shades of Grey fan trailer phenomenon when someone sent me a link to a trailer (featured below) by Chelsea Lincoln. I was amazed by how real it looked and found myself clicking from one of her videos to the next continually surprised by the finesse and attention to detail that went into making them. From there, I was quickly surfing around youtube watching one trailer after another amazed by the sheer quantity of fan created trailers out there and sometimes amazed by the quality of these creations, like in the case of Ms. Lincoln’s. After yelling at the friend who sent me the original link (I seriously wound up losing at least two hours of work time), I moved on and forgot about the Fifty Shades fan trailers for awhile… until The Daily Quirk started receiving emails about them.

After meeting Christian Grey, Anastasia Steele slowly transforms from an innocent and somewhat naive English Literature Major to an adventurous (albeit still wide-eyed) woman with an even more adventurous “inner goddess.” Lots of women want to be Anastasia Steele and seemingly just as many would like to play her in the upcoming movie version of Fifty Shades of Grey! We want to know, who do you think would be the best actress to bring this character to life on the silver screen?

With the Pretty Little Liars summer finale quickly approaching on August 28th and the fact that we know someone is going to commit the ultimate betrayal, we can’t help but wonder if Ezra Fitz is going to be the one committing the shocking betrayal that the show is so seriously hyping. Could Ezra be revealed as part of “Team A”? Perhaps the high school girlfriend business will be coming back to bite him in his perfect tush? Or is Ezra an obvious red herring? Let us know what you think! Continue reading
