As a life-long soap lover, I know one of the most annoying aspects of being a fan is listening to others ridicule a show I love. People have a lot of preconceived notions about soaps. A lot of people claim that they’re silly, poorly written and horribly acted without ever having watched an episode. People are welcome to their opinions, but before criticizing, I think those people should know that some pretty acclaimed actors got their start on soaps. Here are just a handful: Continue reading
So rumor has it Harry Styles sent out 1,989 roses to Taylor Swift just after the release of her 1989 album. When both fandoms heard this, let’s just say no one handled the news well. BUT! We can thank our pal Ellen Degeneres for getting down to business and finally clearing the air. In the boy band’s latest appearance on the daytime talk show, Styles shot down those rumors saying, “I know about the rumors. I don’t know anything about the roses.” Phew. Everyone can calm down (Especially me. I’m sorry. I’m a huge Harry fan!). Continue reading

Miles Teller is the latest addition to the club of celebrities who publicly diss the franchises their associated with. In September he Teller told W Magazine that his Divergent role wasn’t “an interesting part” and that he took the role solely for “business reasons.” He also revealed to the magazine that he told his agent it “sucks.” He said working on the adaptation made him feel “dead inside.” Harsh considering the movie with an international automatic fan-base built in from the movies and his character will be included in the sequel, Insurgent. We love her, we hate her, we love to hate her, and we hate to love her. Britney Spears has a complicated relationship with the public, but she seems to be using social media to bridge the gap that’s formed between herself and her fans.
A Google News search of “Britney Spears” returns not stories about rehab or concerts or hairstyles but a smattering of news items about her Internet posts. The Huffington Post declared Britney the official “Queen Of Pop, Summer And Having Adorable Children,” largely based on evidence gleaned from her social media posts.
Are Britney’s recent posts a way to return to the public eye, a sign of a new agent or just a fun way to engage with more people? I have no idea, but do we ever know what Britney’s thinking, anyway?
The star’s Facebook & Instagram feeds are full of videos and photos of her daily life with comments like “How I spend my Saturdays….lol.” These include posts about herself and about her two sons. She also has photos and comments about her niece. A peek into Britney’s life shows it’s not especially glamorous, but seems to imply that it’s simple and not so far removed from the average person’s world.
These photos get hundreds of thousands of likes and thousands of comments. The profiles aren’t free from publicity posts, though — there are several promotional images for her Vegas show “Piece of Me,” links to vote for Britney in contests and a post promoting her sister Jamie Lynn Spears’s recent EP on iTunes. Her Twitter, Instagram and Google+ posts are generally duplicates of the Facebook posts.
The star also has a verified Pinterest page, but according to the bio it is “run” by fans and interested individuals can “curate” a board if they wish, and many of the boards have multiple contributors. The majority of the content is images of Britney through the years, organized by time or type (e.g. “Hair-ney,” “Oops…I Did It Again Tour”).
Britney has called her 2005 show with Kevin Federline, Chaotic, and the “worst decision” of her career. Heavily criticized, the show was seen as proof of the singer’s narcissism, which didn’t exactly have a favorable impact on her image.
Britney stayed out of the public eye for a while after that, and her social media comeback seems to be a way to show that she is indeed a “normal person” rather than some kind of crazy woman who shaved her head, did drugs, made a failed television show about her own life or wore a denim gown.
The Twitterverse was a flutter on July 9 when news broke that ‘your’ boyfriend, Ryan Gosling, and his actual girlfriend, Eva Mendes, are pregnant. Fans freaked out when the news broke, not just for the reason that it likely has obliterated ‘chances’ at dating Gosling, but chances at a McGosling reunion- aka a relationship reunion with Gosling’s The Notebook co-star, Rachel McAdams. What’s the big deal about Ansel Elgort? Well first off, for those of you asking who he even is… Continue reading
This weekend was filled with dust, music, fashion and, of course, stars. Indio, California brought in people from all over this world for the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival – even some of our favorite celebs. We kept up with them via their Instagram posts, swooned over their amazing boho-chic fashion and cried over the fact that we weren’t there hanging out with them. Continue reading
Seeing a celebrity forget his or her underwear? Old news. Another celebrity divorce? What’s new? Oh, another award show? I’ll DVR that. But seeing a celebrity is engaged to … who?!
We’ve all had that moment where we’re doing our thing and some notification pops up letting us know a well-known celebrity and another celebrity are engaged. However, some are more surprising than others mainly because of the three following reasons (I’m assuming): we never saw it coming, didn’t know the two were dating or we definitely thought the two were going to eventually break up. Continue reading
It’s fairly commonplace for celebrities to be involved in some kind of shocking scandal, hook-up, break up or career move that leaves us picking up our jaws from the ground, and last year was no exception. Check out the most shocking celebrity moments of 2013. Continue reading
I never thought I’d say this, but as Diddy presented at the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards, he summed up the event pretty well: “Everybody keep drinking. It’ll be over soon!” Because really, that’s how I imagine the Golden Globes to be – the more fun, light-hearted little brother of the stuffy and sophisticated Academy Awards, where celebrities are allowed to mingle during commercial breaks and consume lots of alcohol (but they probably still can’t wait to go home).
Though three-hour award ceremonies can drag on from time to time, tonight’s show proved to be entertaining through and through. The highlight was, of course, the Best Actor win for an actor who is often nominated but rarely a winner, Leonardo DiCaprio. Next stop, an Oscar? The interwebs are no doubt keeping their fingers crossed. Continue reading
- During the photo call and press conference leading into the tour Robert Downey Jr. showed up sporting lederhosen and a neckerchief. He explained that his outfit was in honor of his mother’s 71st birthday that day. He went on to say that she was of German decent and said her maiden name was Elsie Schock, proceeding to pronounce the last name in a silly manner. Interestingly, according to Wikipedia his mother’s maiden name is Ford. *shrug*
- Robert Downey Jr. appears at a screening of Iron Man 3 in Moscow and tells the audience that he visited their museum of modern art and decided they should try to make their own modern art. So the audience members all received Iron Man masks to put on for a photo shoot with RDJ.
- In Korea, Robert Downey Jr. appears to the humongous crowd of fans and premiere attendees and participates in a sound bite with the production crew where he states, “Hello, Korea. I am Rodaju.” What this means – I have no idea. Korean speakers?
- Later that night in Korea, Robert Downey Jr. is being interviewed by the Korean MC before the premiere and the MC asks him to dance. RDJ proceeds to do some wacky dance moves that lie somewhere between River Dance and the Russian Barynya.
- When Robert Downey Jr. attends the Chinese premiere of Iron Man 3 he puts on a show for the audience by appearing via a lift that takes him below the stage up top wearing traditional black Chinese clothing alá Jet Li in Hero.

Whether you are into Robert Downey Jr. or not, you must admit the man is entertaining. His own wife described him as “weird” when they first met. It is no wonder that at 48 years old he still can’t manage to tone down his world tour shenanigans – the man is just kooky. I suppose these kind of shenanigans are much better than trashing hotel rooms and showing up to the movie high as a kite. Upgrade!
