Taylor Swift might be the reigning Queen of the break-up song when it all goes sour but she ain’t the only one to pen a song about a nasty break-up. Celebs have been airing their dirty laundry for all to hear via their music for a long time! Sometimes it even ends in a war, just ask Eminem and Mariah… Continue reading
It wasn’t until the news broke that you and Taylor *might* be dating that I completely comprehended the meaning of Beyonce’s Lemonade. This feeling of betrayal can only be fully expressed through a variety of song genres and subliminal messages. It’s not that I don’t love Taylor – because I do. I mean, who wouldn’t want to date her? She is talented, generous, beautiful, smart, adorably awkward at times. She’s literally the whole package. But is she the girl for you? Let’s think about it for a minute. You’re so generous, funny, talented, handsome, adorably awkward. Ok. Yes. You two might be perfect for each other, but there’s still one major problem. Taylor is most certainly and definitely not me.
Here’s the thing, we’re kind of supposed to get married. Sorry to drop that bomb on you only now. I figured I would get a few years into my career, rent a nice place in the downtown area, publish my first kid’s book, and then our time could start. You know, give you a chance to get a few more blockbuster hits under your belt, and then straight up marital bliss. I’m talking a quaint cottage in the English countryside in order to ensure our three beautiful kids have your accent, trips to the farmers market every Sunday afternoon, and spontaneous dancing in our kitchen on week nights. It was going to be so lovely. Sigh.
I know what you’re thinking: “Sarah, you’re crazy, I don’t even know you!” No, you don’t, but how big of a deal is that really in today’s day and age? People do much wackier stuff all the time. If people are allowed to marry inanimate objects in some states, I see no harm in planning my wedding to a dreamy human being such as yourself. And sure, the chances of us actually meeting are about one in a gazillion, but that’s still one gazillionth of a chance I’m willing to cling to. Actually, knowing you’d be willing to date someone my age brings that chance up from one in a gazillion to like, 10 in a gazillion. I can settle for that!
But how does one move past this type of betrayal? With grace, that’s how. If I know anything about Taylor’s track record, it’s that long term is not a word in her vocabulary. I’m sorry, that hurt me far more to say than it hurt you to hear. So when we eventually hear Taylor’s Hiddleston inspired hit, Low Key*, you can guarantee I will be ready and waiting with open arms. For now, my heart is broken, but I know someday you will put the pieces back together. Preferably wearing your Crimson Peak costume.
*My apologies for all the bad Loki puns to come out of the Hiddleswift photo scandal, but they don’t get old.
The internet was an exciting place yesterday. No matter your stance on the topic that inspired it, the event of a filibuster, seeing our government at work, is definitely cause for some serious action on Twitter. But something else came to light later in the day that threatened to take away the public’s attention from the happenings on the Senate floor- Hiddleswift. Continue reading
Brace yourselves. Celebrity breakups are coming.
Last year, it seemed as if something was in the Hollywood air because a handful of celebrity couples just broke up out of nowhere. That’s when I believed love is dead. Coming into 2016, we haven’t been hit with THAT many breakups… Until now. Just this past week alone, Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik, Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris, and Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama have split up.
Looks like I have to delete all my tweets saying that Taylor Swift and Calvin were my OTP goals… Erase the possibility that they would ever make a song together… Or even the fact that Zayn would have somehow found himself in a TayTay squad photo like Joe Jonas when they all were on swans together in the pool. I know you know what I’m talking about.
It’s OK, y’all. We can get through this. I’m used to this thanks to last year’s spur of breakups. First off, don’t dwell on the “whose fault is it?” You’ll end up torturing yourself on who to blame and end up taking sides. Sure, we could all get mad at Calvin Harris for being the one to break poor Swift’s heart because there wasn’t a “spark” anymore. Just you wait, Calvin. Don’t be surprised if we hear a song titled, “Sparks” or “Sparks Die” or some kind of title with that word incorporated in it. And, it’ll be a hit because everything that Taylor Swift touches turns to gold.
Second, don’t expect to see cute snapchats anymore. I relied on Gigi to give me sneak peeks into Zayn’s life since he’s been mostly MIA once he left One Direction. She gave us Directioners a way to keep a track on our beloved missed member. Sigh.
Third, think about the possibility that you could finally date Zac Efron. Oh, you didn’t hear that he’s single now and no longer with Sami Miro? Oh. Well, that should brighten up your day. So you’re saying there’s a chance, Zac? Actually, this could be the same for any relationship. We all have a chance. It may be a long shot and you will probably never run into them in your life, but it’s worth a shot to have positive thinking.
Lastly, if you’re like me, you will no longer have to torture yourself with the whole, “WHY CAN’T I BE HIM/HER?” feelings. I mean, wait. Is that just me?
It’s all right you guys. Things are always changing in the celebrity world. Next thing you know, our favorite ex-couples could be getting back together, having a baby and then getting married. It happened to Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher so this could happen to anyone else. I have hope.
Max Martin is not really a household name, but if you’re a fan of pop music, you’re probably familiar with him. The Swedish songwriter & producer has crafted a gigantic amount of hit songs for an eclectic variety of artists, from the Backstreet Boys early in his career to The Weeknd more recently.
What’s fascinating is that the guy can write such a great hook, it really doesn’t matter who’s singing it. As a result, I frequently find myself in a situation where I hear a new song by an artist I normally don’t like, but am surprised to find I really enjoy the song. Then, if I look the song up online, about 99% of the time I find out it was written and/or produced by Max Martin. I am not even exaggerating here.
Let’s take a look at 5 times Max Martin managed to win me over with songs by artists I never liked before:
Out of the Woods by Taylor Swift
This was the first Taylor Swift song I heard and thought, “Yeah, I’m really into this!” It’s the song that encouraged me to research 1989, which led me to the realization that Max Martin’s fingerprints were all over it, which led to me actually buying and loving 1989. So, not that Taylor cares, but she’d be down at least one fan had she not had the good sense to jump on the Max Martin train.
Dangerous Woman by Ariana Grande
Mr. Martin has worked with Grande before (the catchiest songs on her last album were all touched by his magic), but Dangerous Woman immediately caught my attention and stuck with me. Since it’s a bit different than Martin’s usual fare, it was a pleasant surprise to learn he co-wrote and produced the tune.
Can’t Stop the Feeling! By Justin Timberlake
I could get into NSYNC and early JT, but his latest albums have been a bit of a snoozefest for me. Maybe Justin was getting a bit bored himself, because this infectious song, co-written by Martin, is an upbeat departure.
Dark Horse by Katy Perry
Martin has actually worked with Katy Perry quite a bit, which is why her songs are so catchy and popular despite her mediocre-at-best voice. But it’s Dark Horse that finally managed to get me to admit I liked a Katy Perry song, and I’m giving Max Martin complete credit for that.
One More Night by Maroon 5
As a general rule, my opinion of Maroon 5 is marred by Adam Levine’s smarmy face and the fact that their songs, which all sound alike to me, get played incessantly on the radio. But then there was One More Night. It’s so darn catchy. And why is that? Because Maroon 5 didn’t write it – Max Martin did!
In some cases Martin’s collaborations have led me to albums and artists I grow to love, and other times I’m just salty about feeling compelled to sing along with a Maroon 5 song, but I am always awed by Max Martin’s talent and the fact that this brilliant Swedish dude has such an impact on American pop music.
Whether people like to admit it or not, everyone is a little obsessed with a celebrity or two. But what could be better than famous people’s famous pets? Whether it’s the Obama’s dogs or Justin Bieber’s monkey, pets usually make the news. So here’s a peek at the pets you may not have seen yet.
Bella Thorne’s cat Lola
Ariana Grande’s dog Sirius Black
Miley Cyrus’ pig Bubba Sue
Taylor Swift’s cat Olivia
Cara Delevingne’s bunny Cecil
Were those not the cutest pets you’ve seen today? Sometimes I follow celebrities strictly to see their pets. So go follow them today to make your day a little brighter!
With Valentine’s Day almost a month away from us, what could be better than a list of songs to belt in your car alone on your way to get greasy fast food in hopes of curing that feeling of emptiness? …No? Just me? Okay. At least I know the people that have gone through recent breakups are in a similar boat as me.
Breakups can be messy and unpredictable. There’s the someone cheated breakup, someone got bored and drifted away breakup, and even the elusive mutual breakup. Whatever your breakup situation may be, here are five songs that might make you feel a little bit better if you sing them at the top of your lungs.
Should’ve Said No – Taylor Swift
Let’s be honest, T Swift is the queen of breakup songs. The fact that I was able to just pick one and not make this whole list just her is pretty impressive. But Should’ve Said No is classic and perfect for anyone that was unfortunately cheated on by their significant other. The entire chorus is perfect and so so relatable. Go ahead and angry cry to this one, friends.
Stay Up Late – This Wild Life
This Wild Life is one my all-time favorite bands and honestly their entire album Clouded is perfect to get anyone through a breakup. I picked Stay Up Late specifically because it’s about making a phone call to an unreciprocated love interest. While I don’t advise that you call the person that broke your heart, this song is beautiful and yelling “YOU DON’T LOVE ME, I CAN TELL” along with the lead singer is beyond therapeutic.
Wrecking Ball – Miley Cyrus
Just about everybody that knows anything about pop culture knows that Miley wrote this song after her and longtime boyfriend Liam Hemsworth split. So if you tried everything to make your relationship work but it failed despite your efforts, go ahead and throw on this song and embrace the heartache that it brings. The repeating line, “Don’t you ever say I just walked away/I will always want you,” is especially heart-wrenching.
Go to Hell – Go Radio
Another angry song that’s ideal if your S.O. left you for someone else. The song is sung from the perspective of a note that was left for the other person. The note says, “Go to hell if you’re reading this and I’m not here/Take your someone else and let me make this crystal clear that/That I don’t need your help and I’m okay by myself.” It repeats the line “go to hell” about ten times throughout the song and is the best song for after you’ve moved past the sadness phase and into the anger phase of a breakup.
Fuck You – Sleeping With Sirens
This a cover of the song originally by Cee Lo Green, but the SWS version is just a little angrier than the original. This song is perfect when you’re almost out of the anger phase and close to being over the person and the relationship the two of you shared. But not quite over it yet. Like, it’s been a few months and you feel like you should be over it because your friends are tired of hearing you talk about it but you still want to talk about it. So go ahead and put this song on repeat until it’s easier to keep them off your mind.
Breakups suck. Everyone knows that. So please do yourself a favor and deal with the emotions you’re feeling afterwards. It’s never good to keep emotions bottled up, so go ahead and start crying on shoulders, punching pillows, and singing your heart out to the tunes I picked just for you. We’ll get through this heartbreak together.
Alright, alright, alright. If you follow me on Twitter, you can see just how much I wish I was part of Taylor Swift’s squad. Seriously. Taylor has created a group that defines #SquadGoals. But, to be honest, I can’t even keep up with who’s actually in the squad or who’s just a special guest. That is why this article needs to happen. We’re about to give you a break down on Tay Tay’s squad once and for all. Continue reading
From Paris Hilton’s “That’s Hot” to Donald Trump’s “You’re Fired,” celebs have a long history of trademarking the things they say. Most recently, Taylor Swift made news when she applied to trademark some popular lyrics off her 1989 album. What seem to be normal phrases such as “This sick beat” and “Nice to meet you, where you been” now belong to Taylor Swift herself. Don’t even think about saying you want to “Party like it’s 1989,” because that’s hers too! Continue reading
This article required an intense amount of serious research in the form of watching every Taylor Swift music ever made and pausing to study each and every guy. I’m not going to say I didn’t enjoy it, but this is serious business we’re talking here; spreadsheets and all. Narrowing down the list to just five men took hours of scientific algorithms, or just a lot of Google image-searching these men without their shirts on. Continue reading
One of the neatest aspects of the music industry is to watch what happens when musicians inspire their peers. When you have such a unique and diverse array of people who each have their own style, the possibilities for the way one song can be performed are seemingly endless. Sometimes musicians covering other musicians results in disaster, and other times, like when Imagine Dragons recently covered Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space,” something truly magical happens. Here are 10 unexpectedly awesome covers! Continue reading
Friends come and go. We all know that, right? Over the years, we slowly realize friends we were once close with are no longer in our lives anymore. It’s sad to say, but it’s something that inevitably happens when you grow up. Have you ever thought back and wondered what ever happened to your friendship with so-and-so? Yeah, so did Demi Lovato. Well, not really. Continue reading
Pop culture lovers know how tiresome it is to see reality stars and pop princesses rise to fame as their ridiculous antics and drama are splashed across the tabloids. The media eats it up, and who can blame them? The attention-seekers of the celebrity world certainly make for good gossip. The problem with that, though, is that truly talented, respectable stars get pushed aside in favor of talking over served clubbing night shanigans and *shudders* twerking. Continue reading
